what excellent service.

Had a great 2degrees number for my business, (easy to remember sequence number).  was purchased around December 09, Was used up until July just for testing and so forth and put away in a drawer while the business was getting ready to launch, got business cards, brochures and websites created with that number on it.

Now when i put the SIM into the phone it says sim not active, when I call through to 2degrees they tell me my number has been erased and there is no way to be recovered, even after explaining that it was financially very impacting to not get my number back they still said that re-allocating the number that was still available in the pool back to me was not something they would be interested in doing for me.

I was registered online with 2degrees with that number, if I had of received an email saying my number was about to be erased I would of quite happily turned the phone.

So thanks 2degrees, I certainly hope you have so many customers demanding numbers that you can justify cutting off your business customers who haven't had the phone on for 5 months. I certainly will never be one of them.

Hi kdn, sorry to hear about your experience. 2degrees recommends that if you intend to keep a number for some important purpose that you remember to top it up.

There are 2 reminders sent before credit expiry, and a further 2 before account expiry 30 days later.

Not sure why you are upset @ 2degrees

They sent reminder SMS to the MSISDN which would be most logical choice

From what sounds of what KDN said I dont think he ever topped up and just used the credit that was on there.

KDN: Was the sim in the phone anytime after you finished testing?

It is, but without any specific details, it's hard to really know what happened.

Also, he said that he hadn't had the phone on for 5 months, not that it was only 5 months old when it expired. Without wanting to sound too nasty, it can't really be that important a number if it's left switched off for 5 months, can it?

EDIT - heh, comment collision. This is in reply to NonPrayingMantis. :-)

yes sending a notice to the number of the phone that hasn't been used, informing that because the number hasn't been used it will be cancelled seems very logical doesn't it.

Salty/Jokes, as stated, the number was purchased early to secure the good number. I did not intend to use it at that time.

I can confirm the SIM was last usable in July because I actually have a video of the phone in question and calling the number, I don't believe it was used since then it may have been turned on once or twice since that time.

If not the number is still available then why is not possible to reallocate it to kdn? If it's been taken fair enough but I can't see why it can't be reattached, if necessary to a new sim.

from the website

All Payments to your Prepay Account remain available to pay the Charges for use of the Services for 365 days after the date of Activation (for Re-Charge Credit which is pre-loaded on your SIM card by us) or Payment. You must make a Payment of at least $20 at least once every 365 days in order to keep your Prepay Account active. Any unused balance on your Prepay Account is forfeited unless a Payment is made within the applicable period.

So would it be 2degrees fault if you did not check the email address?

l43a2, very nice, where does it say that if a prepay account becomes inactive the number attached to the account will be erased and unrecoverable?

riahon, precisely what i asked them, if I ring the number it says account is deactivated so I know it has not been reallocated.

Now I have $2000 worth of scrap paper, business cards, glossy flyers, brochures, welcome packs, mouse pads, tshirts. Cool.

Yes it would have been nice if they emailed you but they don't offer that service.

They will be terribly upset to lose you as a customer, you're obviously spending a lot of money with them.

If you had asked nicely then you might have found someone who would help retrieve the number for you (since you say it has not yet been reallocated).  You've pretty much burnt that bridge now though.

If you go to this page http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/prepay_terms

Click on "Prepay Terms & Conditions"

18(b) is probably something you should have read (sorry about the formatting):

While you remain a 2degrees customer, your Mobile Phone Number will remain active for 365 days from the date of your last Payment of $20 or more.
