Im going to *make* dad change to Vodafone, we get 5GB more data, free mysky, free calling to dads work phone all for less than a dollar extra than we are paying now. excited.

i have to use up all the aditional data we've purchaced through slingshot first though, otherwise it would just be a waste.

Good luck changing, even if Slingshot do wave your early termination fees for the broadband service, they still might hit you up for the homeline ETF that you got with your broadband connection.

in regards to 'ETF' (singular). If for example the main grizzle, groan, moan
and whinge is broadband then it will be highly unlikely that if you have HLINE & TOLLS
they are going to be waived.

bash: Howdy Hamish

Im on the same plan as you -- and having the same problems. And for some reason -- even though my contract was meant to be for 6 months, the bozos made it 1 year, even though I had no bundled hardware.

Back to the issues, yep I have exactly the same problems, Im seriously thinking of changing back to Telecom as their new $145 plan that includes 80GB of data and a home line is competitve, and I know there are no speed issues with them. The offpeak downloads are just a joke right now.

Besides Telecom, anyone else have any good ideas on a good ISP in South Auckland?

South Auckland ?

It's odd that the speed test done at Slingshot.co.nz is vastly better than those at Speedtest.net or Telecom.co.nz.  All tests were done within minutes of each other and from the same computer. No other internet usage at the time of test. Could someone please give me a possible reason? Thanks.

(Below is done via Telecom.co.nz)

The Slingshot speedtest is hosted within the core of Slingshots network.

I thought that might be the reason. Thanks.

WOW your speeds are really bad outside the Slingshot core, have your called the helpdesk and logged the issue and got a ticket number? You can get through to the helpdesk faster if you call there 0800 89 2000 number using a cell phone.

2: I think they are aware of the issue. Take a look here.

BevinS giving a sneak preview of upgrades comming.

-Better dimentioning rate.
-Lessen load on congested links.

The later which will be more effective imo. During peak times the congestion has been bad & packet queuing is causing 10-15ms ping increases. ( not too bad, but its best going down, not up, when it comes to latency :D )

Hmmm well my speeds tonight according to Speedtest on my Slingshot Full Speed connection:

Download: 2.31Mbs
Upload: 0.64Mbs
Ping 445ms

A tad worrying me thinks! And apparently we will have VDSL in our area next month.

What do you mean by vdsl ?

2.31mbs  at night (peak time) is decent i guess.

But upload at 0.64 and  ping at 445ms ?!?!?!?!  Wow that's awful,  my ping is 31 and that's already slow , my upload is supposed to be 128 but it's prob about 90

Heres an analogy for you subzero (feel free to use it in your court case Tongue out )

The Slingshot broadband network service is like walking into a bakery and buying a donut, you hand over your money which pays for 1 whole donut, they then proceed to give you little slices of the donut over a period of time until eventually you get the whole donut. This takes a lot longer than you had previously perceived of buying goods and services from a bakery. You thought to yourself, "I'll just go into the bakery, and buy a donut and be on my merry way." Wait a minute buster, we got the donuts, we dictate how they are served to you. We put them in our window, you came in, we just didn't tell you how you were going to get one." Yeah, their defense is well "you paid for a donut and thats what we gave you, whats your problem pal?" (it just took a little longer than it would in other bakeries), Stop complaining or we'll ban you from our donut shop! You are causing a disturbance here!

When I walk into a bakery and keep my end of the bargain by agreeing to the full price, handing over my money, I want my frickin donut in one piece so I can walk out with it.

There are 2 mods over at the Slingshot forums playing good cop, bad cop. Message to good cop (m33rcactus) - you are polite, funny, even whimsical, you are quite possibly the one who can turn this situation around, but your allegiance is to bad cop and the company, so it is doubtful you will have any real effect, please, be our voice. Message to bad cop (BevinS) - you are doing your company more harm than you can possibly imagine when addressing the issues that people raise in regard to your network service, stop being a bully, man up and admit there are problems and stop punishing your customers for having a voice, help those in the 'minority' group of people affected by this, clearly you need a wake up call and an education in people to people relations.

When I go to Youtube and watch a 360p video, which is at the lower end of the detail scale, I'd like to get it in one, smooth stream. Don't tell me to wait until its on the cache, and that once its there you will have no problems, this again is a poor defense. You know its your equipment, you know its your settings, its not my router, we are not going to play the "try a different jack point, try a different router, try a different phone cable" game. Its getting old, and so are your excuses. You know theres a problem, stop fighting the customer and put someone in charge who would give his/her shirt off their back to provide a "better place" than it currently is. Theres work to do here.
This post in no way infers that the people at Slingshot are slow and doughy Smile (its just their network service)
