The phone was connected early thursday morning (7am!)

but still impressed me how quick it can be done yes.

Well my connection got done today and it'd be fair to say that it's pretty impressive. I've gone from 7.5Mbs down to 12.5Mbs and it seems very snappy.

Very happy - so far anyway...

Wait, lol, didn't you say you ordered saturday night and you got connected on monday morning ? ..what got connected on thursday ?

I switched to Orcon on April 11. The plan is Best Deal Ever (30G data). I was very pleased with their friendly CSR and their speed of getting you connected.

I tested the connection speed (with SpeedTest.net) on Monday night at around 7pm, it was 14Mbps. This morning (Saturday), I discovered the speed was quite slow compared with weekdays. I did the speed test again (at 11:20am), it showed 4.85Mbps down and 0.23Mbps up. It seemed that most of the website browsing was OK, some websites needed a few refreshes to load, YouTube was relatively OK to watch. Haven't try online gaming yet. However, my p2p online video watching thing seems to be very very very slow at the moment (at around 10 - 20kbps). Have tried to reboot my modem router several times, and the situations were the same. Could it have been throttled?

I wouldn't change back if I were you, they have HORRIBLE customer service now, worse than before and that's saying something. They have acquired so many companies and let the best of those staff go and kept a bunch of really poor customer service people. Their management is belligerent and don't take responsibility. There are still some good people there, but sadly crippled by the crappy management team. I have been fighting with them for over 4 months with my internet connection at home. I am on their highest plan and spend over $150 a month with them, and they don't give a CRAP.

They used to be the best company around.

Not entirely true.

Orcon will notify your previous provider to stop billing for phoneline and broadband. But if you've got additional on-net services such as Officemail, webhosting, domain names, etc, this will not be stopped. It is only the broadband, phoneline and tollcalling that gets moved.

It's always best to just doublecheck with your previous ISP about a week after you've moved over to Orcon (or whoever you're moving to) just to make sure there are no lingering on-net services that they are still billing you for.

Please note, On-Net services includes dialup. If you've got a dialup internet plan lingering on your old ISP account, it might pay to give your old ISP a call and get this switched off.
