For me, it is mainly the fact that there are other x no of ppl who are still on vodafone - and then blackmail that they wont (alteast that frequently) keep in tuch - I dont blame them totally, but it sux havin to carry different mobiles for diff service providers

Well, remind them they can finally buy an any-net text pack, then they have no excuse. Better yet just get them to come with you!

1. A good deal on the X5
2. The Ideos X6 appears on the local market

Problem is coverage is pushing me over towards Telecom.

You missed the good deal on X5 from Warehouse Stationary although I expect to see it back in some form.

maybe slightly off topic

i moved to 2 degrees then moved to pay monthly. i have been using vodafone for years. main reason for this is because of international texting - old telecom cdma network cant do international txting that i need.

when i first moved to 2degrees, international texting was great. it works to malaysia, singapore, japan and even seychelles (none of the operators over there have roaming agreement with 2degrees until now)! then, international texting became 'faulty'. i dont receive most of the texts sent from these countries. sometimes they also dont receive my texts. Last 2 months it worked again, but in the last few weeks it has not been working that well.

my solution, i sent them 2degrees sim card to use with their spare phone (permanent roaming at the respective countries). no missing texts so far.

2degrees has limited number of countries that you can roam. one that is really important for me is seychelles. once you have been to seychelles, you will never want to go somewhere else ;-) I travel overseas for holidays at least 3x a year. i am surprised that they can offer roaming to maldives and mauritius but not seychelles!

i live in town that 2degrees does not have their own network - hence roaming on vodafone. my house has terrible reception. it was so bad that i decided i should move to vodafone to get suresignal. i was ready to make the move until one day i woke up and saw full bar on my phone. the whole house has excellent coverage! thank you vodafone.

for me, i will move back to vodafone late this year or early next year if:
1. international roaming is still poor and super expensive
2. poor reception (i will be moving to different town end of this year)
3. vodafone can offer low cost for international texting

I think the crucial thing is that people travel outside of the 4 centres where 2Deg operates, and then you are equal to other networks in terms of data. I realise it must not be easy for 2Deg to have large amounts of data roaming through VF due to cost, but this must be a sore point for many considering 2Deg.

according to another friend who is stuck to VF only cuz of the "best mate" feature. he ll prolly jumps ship 2moro if 2dg gets something like that

When you say "goodbye" - don't close/cancel your account - otherwise you will lose your number (be unable to port). The porting process does the cancelling for you.

I have been looking at my best mates usage more lately and have realized that I don't need it. I would actually save about $20 a month moving to 2D. So what's stopping me? Just haven't got around to going into the store and doing it. I also have to pay the $180 ETF, but I will still save money in the long run.

I'd move but my cheapo mates want the text 5K package on vodafone so wont text me if I move. Plus, now that I have text NZ I dont really have another reason to switch. I can text anyone now, and i have data which is what I want. Im paying a few extra bucks but I get to stay with my mates.

- lack of coverage outside of the main centres: I travel to the Coast at times and I'd need to roam on VF. Fine for voice, but I'd probably still keep my Vodem and T-Stick
- international texting issues: this works fine on VF, and not so flash on Telecom. Untested on 2degrees - but at least I know that Vodafone works
- I can't get the 022 number I want, and I'm not interested in porting my current 021 number over.

nothing stopping us at all. we just moved all our connections from vodafone to 2degrees via the guys at TalkMobile. we were going to save well over $5000 per annum *before* they added free team calling to the mix.... 2degrees coverage is fine in our office, TelecomXT coverage is the best, but Vodafone was hovering between no coverage and 1 bar of coverage. the only thing i'm missing on 2degrees? TXT Parking :-)

I made the switch from XT a couple of weeks ago after much umming and arring, best mates/fav's was what was holding us to XT but after crunching the numbers the free 100min/mth for a year deal and minutes rollover negates XT's fav's, plus hte better range of affordable phones is a win

As far as positive criticism 2 Degrees please reconsider data plans, you have sold me on the benefits of 3G with my shiny new Ideos X5 but the 50mb/mth limit is fun while it lasts but 300~500mb/mth is probably more in line with how i would likely use my phone. I have no problem buying a 3gb or 12gb data pack but i need the usable months extended as i will not use 1gb per month, i will use maybe 0.5gb a month and none of your options support this, increase 3gb pack to expire after 6mths, maybe even extend expiry for 12gb pack out to 12mths.

Bottom line is that at this stage i will manage my data heavily meaning we both miss out, you in revenue, me with convenience.

Overall moving across to 2D has been a painless and fruitful experience, I am loving my X5 and so far so good!!

Agreed, data is the only thing stopping me. 100mb just doesn't quite cut the mustard for me.
