miamiheatfan - did you ever make the move to Orcon, and if so how did you find it?

We had exactly the same issue with Slingshot - speeds of well under 1MB most of the time.  Took the best deal offer from Orcon this week, and now have speeds that only fluctuate between 5.5 and 6MB/sec.

$70 for telephone, full-speed internet and 30GB data seems a great deal to me - no longer do people have to accept that cheap prices means poor speeds and rubbish service.  And price was the only reason we joined Slingshot, so it's great to see there's now totally viable competition for those of us that are price-driven.

hi Jon,
Sorry for the late reply.
Yes we finally got connected on Thursday.
The speed you're reporting is pretty much the same as mine. I thought it would be somewhere around 10-14..but I guess we have to live close to the box hahaha.
But yea speed is already MUCH better than slingshot....yaayy..

But one problem: its showing 5GB LLU on My Account ....wth .....i want my 30GB lol. Same for you ??

Yeah, I'm also assuming that I'm too far away to get the sorts of speeds others are enjoying. I'm just pleased to have a reliable, ok speed connection. Plus torrent downloads are super-fast compared to what we "enjoyed" with Slingshot, where they went at a snail's pace (throttled perhaps?).

We kind of stuffed up for our first month, having foolishly elected to take the free national calling. Having been reminded of our stupidity (esp.with losing "free" downloading periods from 4-8, which I used a bit), we were told we could switch to the 30GB plan, but this took effect from the start of the next billing cycle (today - always the 23rd). Anyway, I've checked and this is what it says:

Orcon@Home Bronze+: (5GB) with 25GB free data pack (Limited offer)
Orcon@Home Bronze+: 5GB + 25GB, Homeline, Residential calling. 30GB total

So def. reflecting the full 30GB. Maybe check again and see if it's been updated for you, and if not give them a call?

Yea I called them up and the guy was wondering about that as well.
He said he could see that the order was for 5gb + 25GB Orcon@Home Bronze+  ...but i got connected to the one minus 25GB.

He has arranged a plan change.
My first bill has arrived and its for the 5GB one.........hopefully there's no extra charge for the plan change and the extra 25GB as promised.

Oh one question:

This may sound stupid but once we're on the @Home Bronze+ 30GB plan , its there forever as long as we're with slingshot right ? (like it won't go back to 5GB per month etc etc.)

Correct. You have signed up for a 30Gb plan and you won't be forced off that plan unwillingly. If this plan becomes "grandfathered" you will still be able to stay on this plan. However if you want to do an upgrade/downgrade after the plan is grandfathered, you won't be able to stay on this plan and will have to decide on which of the "current" plans best suits you.
