Zeon: TBH I don't know why people in most cases limit the number of mailboxes. They are likely to be using something like Postfix which doesn't really matter. The only reason we limit the number is because we have to pay a per mailbox license cost to our mail server supplier.


The limit comes into play when you're offering a anti virus/spam service, some solutions require a license cost per mailbox which can be surprisingly pricey if you're using a decent product such as say Cisco Ironports, as a few providers in NZ do.

A 5 mailbox limit is also a great way of encouraging users to use gmail or some other online service, no one these days wants to have to look after a mail platform which is only a giant money sink.
