We're all going though the same deal as our company has decided to switch all our work phones from Vodafone to 2Degrees. On the calling front it will work out a lot cheaper, however data wise it seems like we'll all be needing to purchase extra data packs each month.

I guess as 2Degrees gets more users they will be able to purchase more bandwidth from their suppliers which will in turn bring the costs down. Coupled with more 2degrees owned cell towers and the future is looking bright.

One thing that is for sure is that without 2degrees we'd still be paying the same price we were for our calls/data as we were years ago. Vodafone/Telecom were just milking us.

I think it would be nice to have a $10 mobile broadband zone add on, there is a big gap between 1GB and 100MB pack

Wade: I would be happy to continue paying my $29 month plus add say $10 for a reasonable data pack bringing the monthly spend in line with the other current market offerings...

amanzi: Why don't you drop down to Prepay, then get the $19 combo + $20 1GB data pack.

29 + 10 = 39

19 + 20 = 39

You lose 30 minutes of calling on the second option but gain 1GB mobile data. Am I missing something?

That is an "apples with pears" comparison

I would like to think my usage is fairly typical of the average domestic consumer, I use 60-ish mins, 50-ish texts, & around 300~400mb of data, on the prepay + data pack option it will cost me $10~15 in extra minutes and I will be lucky to consume half of the data pack, the only comparable aspect is the initial monthly cost

Sadly, however, that is not at all fairly typical of the average consumer. $50 2G cheap-and-cheerfuls outsell smartphones by a huge margin. The "average domestic consumer" is not interested in 400MB of mobile data a month. Mostly, they send texts. Hec, I get effectively unlimited free mobile data and *I* usually don't use that much.

In any case, several posters have already pointed out the reasons why the prices are what they are. We are busy expanding our coverage as we speak, so the broadband packs are available in more and more places.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

Cheers for the feedback, looks like my stay with 2D will be shortlived and I will be migrating across to another telco in the near future

Out of interests sake, of the 2D data users, what is the split between smartphone and modem/data only users? Is the average 2D consumer not the average smartphone user? From my limited viewpoint I see a much bigger uptake on smartphones than mobile computing so I find your post interesting to say the least

I too would have to disagree with you Wade, as it seams that a lot of early adopters were simply there for the cheap call/txt rates and it has only just recently happened that smart phones were being sold by 2degrees. In time I think there will be better offerings from 2degrees but you cant expect them to cater to everyones whim straight away.

And beyond that-
I am a smart phone user on 2degrees. I am on the $39 plan and have been happy with the 50mb per month, now I am even more happy that I have 100mb.

But to be fair I am also in a position where I have access to Wifi almost all of the day. This helps me avoid over use on my 3g data use. That and the fact I use Droidwall to assist in the prevention of unwanted access to the 3g network.

Cheers

I pay about $30 a month on prepay, and two thirds of that goes to data, when I'm not at home. Calling and texting is cheap enough w/out value packs for me :D
FWIW, I for one would be keen to see a slightly bigger roaming data pack, or even a smaller BB-zone one, since I'll be moving in-zone by next year. Indeed, there is a huge gap between 100mb and 1gb - one's boo much, the other too little. But I can't complain, the service is excellent. ^_^

I have all the phones on 2degrees at the moment, but am probably going to take the android one that I only use for data back to telecom for coverage reasons, for voice etc they cant be beat, but even with the sweet pricing, the performance is not really any better than vodafones shocking 3g network most places I go.

How about a cheaper voice  rate on prepay to reflect the ongoing drop in wholesale termination rates.

Don't forget this site is about geeks not the average user. Out of most of my friends and family who are mostly on 2d; Hardly any abuse 3G data like I do.

To give some clarity i should have said "average smartphone consumer" not average consumer, 2D cater brilliantly for the average consumer in fact that was the catalyst for switching the wife and I over to 2D, where i went wrong was buying a smartphone and have since become reliant on their connectivity and convenience :P

People with whom i have spoken to regarding their smartphone usage patterns the overwhelming majority of them only need 50~100minutes a few texts and 200~500mb of data, I suspect this would represent the needs of the average smartphone consumer.

Out of interest, on VF's website they have the Smart 1 plan flagged as "our most popular plan"

I make use of WiFi at home, work and anywhere else I can and that gets me mostly around the data limitations.
