This Genius offering looks really good at first glance. However I don't have a contract and have my own gigabit router...so I am not so keen on the modem rental.

Gotta say that Orcon's (New Zealand's) international bandwidth issues between 5pm and 10pm stop me signing any contract with any ISP.

Don't know how valuable the iSky Ozone is, as between the above times I cannot watch due to buffering issues. Outside these times iSky is excellent.

I was keen on signing up for this service today...however, I might just sit tight and see what happens over the next few weeks.

Damm, Genius not available in Timaru. Would have been $30.00 a month saving for me.

Sounds awesome to me. Paying $95 a month for a 50GB cap. I'm already paying that and only get 30 gigs.

Is "Wiring and Maintenance" recommended?

Seems like pretty nice plans to me.

24 month contract is a bit meh but it does include a free move of house at least

I was looking at the Orcon site today but can't see any plans now just for Broadband with no fone service.. They all seem to be BB + fone.

"Importantly, for Kiwis outside Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch who haven’t yet seen telecommunications competition drive down prices, the device means Orcon can offer a market-leading price point to consumers nationwide* "

Unless you are so rural that you cannot get broadaband, then you should be able to get this acording to Orcon

I am in New Plymouth on the Spotswood exchange and thought I would try it out and guess what I got
Sorry, it looks like Orcon Genius is not available at your place. We're going to redirect you to our great value Orcon@Home plans instead.

It's not exactly an improvement - I've been attempting to switch plans for the last 2 weeks, but get no response from Orcon - the plans would have cost me $245 - the current offering would cost me $261.

Time to switch methinks. Who's offering the best deal for a reliable 200GB+ of data? Are nznet any good? Others?

I haven't heard back from Orcon yet so I assume the address checker is not yet fixed.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Thanks Quentin. I take it that the low density exchanges are not included in Genius.

Cheers.
