adw: Thanks, will be interested if you can pin anything down. Do you know what server the site you're having problems with is on please?

I seem to be having the problem on one site more than the others, but it's a bit hard to tell as I don't constantly visit every site in order to check that it's still up and running (although I did do that yesterday afternoon and all of them were working ok).

My main problem site is on ww2.iserve.net.nz but I've got lots of other sites on this server and they can be working when the problem one isn't.

I've been with iServe for quite a few years and before being bought by Orcon I found them to be very reliable and to offer fantastic service. I personally met with the original iServe management team and found them to be very open and accommodating. It was because of this that I purchased their LifePlan Plus package back in 2006 which means that for a one-off payment I never have to pay them for hosting ever again. This has paid for itself several times over and I'm very glad that I made that decision.

I've looked into hosting via Amazon's EC2 but so far I haven't gone down that root because my Linux sys admin skills aren't all that hot (I do use Amazon's S3 service though and always chuckle when they bill me 50 cents a month for the gigabytes of storage I've used).

So I don't think I'll be jumping ship just yet, although the longer this continues the more concerned I'm getting.

BTW: has anyone pointed iServe to this discussion so they can see it's affecting more than one customer?

Yes, it's more obvious if you're working on a site and the problem occurs. On the database driven sites the customer is also logging in to update their products, so two sets of eyes are seeing when a problem occurs (but it occurs differently for both). We've had to move several of our database driven sites because of this poor performance but are hoping Iserve will be able to pin down the issue before too much longer.

I agree service has gone downhill fast since Orcon took over and this slow loading issue has been going on since November last year and has got decidedly worse - it seems to go onto the 'too hard' pile at times.

As one of the components of Google's ranking algorithm is now page loading times it certainly can't be ignored.

Zeon: How many sites are you hosting? May be worth looking at getting a VPS/Dedicated Server where you have better control over shared hosting which as you can see is a bit hit and miss

Thanks, we've been with Iserve a long time and were reluctant to move however we have moved some of our large sites to a VPS (but not with them). Iserve should be performing though - or is this the idea, get all the old Iserve clients to move and close down Wellington?

I was having some problems on Monday 17th October.

Seems ok as of Wednesday 19th mid afternoon.

Thanks, yes we had the same, wondering when it will be reliably stable. Had two more clients ask to leave the platform.

Don't they have offices in the Avalon tower. I thought that was where their wellington datacentre was located?

That would certainly explain the appalling service but I thought their datacentre was still in Wellington too. Perhaps Orcon would like to clarify?

They did have an office in the Avalon Tower yes - they bought iServe in 2009 and everything from that point on became Orcon - they closed down the Avalon office in July this year so it makes me very sad to read all of the stuff on here rubbishing iSERVE and it's service when it wasn't iSERVE's fault at all - before the closure they were running on a very sketetal crew with very little back up and support from Auckland and that whole time knowing they were all losing their jobs

To clarify - they closed down the actual office where the employees worked and took calls etc - i do not know what they have done with the actual data centre part of the business - this was in a different part of the building altogether - you will need to ask Orcon about that side of it

Thanks, will see if Orcon will clarify. It's always a problem when a big organisation buys a smaller, hands on one - both customers and staff suffer. Cheers.
