The 2degrees network is currently spreading like spilt coke on a white carpet right now. Hopefully this means the new smartphone friendly plans are on their way!

You have all been discussing the material cost of being on 2d compared to that new VF plan, but there's also the immaterial. Their oversea call centres (which are now all NZ based) drove me insane, while I have never been treated poorly by the 2d one. For me that's worth the slight inconvenience of the data market. Other people will have similar stories for both sides of the argument.

Never underestimate the goodwill a company can earn in their customers... and the cost of the reverse

My apologies, I was meaning to compare 2degrees with a decent drink. So that should have been Pepsi :P

I wish people would add cola to the end of coke if they are referring to the drink, Many a time this has backfired for me :P

timmmay: Do phone companies really want the customers who provide little revenue, but probably have the same overheads as higher spending customers?

I was a $30/mth 2D customer who was not happy with the data offerings which resulted in me moving across to VF on a $62/mth plan. For me the dollars were not the critical issue it was the value and imho VF offered me a better value proposition. If 2D could have offered me the value (my opinion not necessarily everybodies) i would have become a higher  spending customer. It is easier to keep existing customers happy than win new customers.

FWIW the wife has been on 2D for 12mths and she is just about to switch her $40/mth plan to a $80/mth XT iphone plan because once again the value proposition is there for her

I say a phone company wants all the little fish it can fit in its bowl because they will get hungry and want more over time

Is it even valid to compare American plans with NZ ones????
- We don't share the same charging methods for voice components
- We are about half a world away
- Even if they were somehow comparable, they're not available here in NZ

How about a best mate 1000 mins and TXTS to one nominated NZ mobile or Landline

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=92957

Prepay Smart has all the value of On Account, with the flexibility of Prepay.
You have the choice of three Add-On bundles at a great value price:

• Smart 25: up to 50 minutes to NZ mobiles & landlines, 2500 TXTs to NZ mobiles and 100MB of data a month for $25
• Smart 35: up to 50 minutes to NZ mobiles & landlines, 2500 TXTs to NZ mobiles, 150MB of data and a NZ Bestmate (1000 mins and TXTS to one nominated NZ mobile or Landline) a month for $35
• Smart 45: up to 100 minutes to NZ mobiles & landlines, 2500 TXTs to NZ mobiles, 250MB of data and a NZ Bestmate (1000 mins and TXTS to one nominated NZ mobile or Landline) a month for $45

If you use up all your Add-on before it renews don't worry you'll pay just:
• $0.49 per min to any mobile number in NZ
• Just $0.12 per txt to any NZ mobile
• $0.20 per MB

would like to see self configurable plan/packages

on my personal phone I'd like occasional calls, some txt, and a good amount of data

most of the plans are loaded with txt, and pathetic data.

2 degrees lobbied the Commerce Commission to ban on net best mate prepay voice plans and now vfone is introducing a off net best mate plan so to be competitive 2 degrees should reciprocate.

I'd like the same sort of plan, 1gb data (well at least 250mb) and some calls and text.

All the plans seem to have data as the add on at the moment where with a smart phone the data is the main use, the voice and text are secondary (for me anyway).

Would like to see a smaller text pack available, something like 500 texts for say $6 as 2500 is far too many for my needs (use about 200-300 per month).

And in that case I would use the $6 500 text pack + the $6 50MB data pack and spend a bit more than I do now.
