Hoping that 2D will come up with an improved $19 plan to keep competing with VF!

Smart 25: up to 50 minutes to NZ mobiles & landlines, 2500 TXTs to NZ mobiles and 100MB of data a month for $25

Another $6 gets me 20 extra minutes and 50mb. Wheres my calculator :)

there won't be one. their plan is already cheap as. they can't offer cheaper data until they have their own network

And now there is one cheaper as :) The point is the competition is now giving a similar or better prepay deal.

If you were from 2D and you stated emphatically that we werent going to compete, then youd be losing customers.

And I note  in the the new Vfone prepay plans that the best mate can be a customer of another mobile network or landline.

With BestMates On Account you can call, TXT, PXT and video call up to three NZ Vodafone mobiles (as long as they're on the NZ Vodafone network) as much as you like from within NZ, 24/7.

Something had to give to stop the exodus of Vfone customers to their competitors.

Interesting times especially with Callplus/Slingshot soon to launch plans on the XT network and the Eurozone on the verge of collapse which means a lot less money around next year.

I have just upgraded to a smartphone - so am trying the 3G data.
2degrees have a $20 for 1GB for a month in 'their' mobile broadband zones - that mostly suits me.
I cant see any way I can actually use that 1GB - and to be honest I dont really want to spend $20 per month.

I emailed them and suggested that something like a tenner a month for 500mb would probably be quite popular - dont know what they think of that. Casual rates for 500 mb would be $250!!!!

50mb a month is just a joke (but they all seem to have tiddly amounts like that in various plans).

Do phone companies really want the customers who provide little revenue, but probably have the same overheads as higher spending customers?

Well you could extend that logic to 'lets bump up the prices to get rid of the smaller users and just charge the really rich a hell of a lot to pay for the services'.

A large number of users paying a smaller amount still adds up to $$$$

Revenue is vanity.
Profit is sanity.

so whether those low spending customers are worthwhile would depend on the costs.
A large number of people spending $10 per month but costing $11 per month does not equal a profitable business

Its good turnover though and a good customer base to upsell to.

Any business who talks about turnover and not profit probably has a terrible business model.
