Dratsab:
johnr: Did you swap SIM cards about with your partner and see what happens?

I'm wondering if you brought the phone new or second-hand?

@johnr - would this sort of problem occur if the phone is blacklisted on the Vodafone network?

Its a brand new phone...Xmas present Smile

It was purchased as a gift from 100% Appliances.  Shouldn't make any difference Wink

It can, as one dodgy place sells second-hand or refurbished phones as new.

Ok,  So here is an update and still no joy.

Went to Masteron.  No coverage.  Swapped sim cards as the 2 degrees had suggested to me.  Still nothing.  It must be the settings on the phone.  On the way home got a bit of coverage between Featherston and the beginning of the Rimutaka hill and then nothing till I got to Lower Hutt.  Which is crazy because I came back along the motorway (no coverage) and yet I work at Trentham....where I have coverage every day.  I guess the only thing I can do is take it into a 2 degrees shop?  Anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks for the suggestions so far Smile

Can you confirm the following -

Is Network Mode set to 'GSM/WCDMA (Auto mode) IN 'Wireless & networks > Mobile networks.

In 'Network operators' is 'Select automatically' on?

Did you manually search and select the available networks when in you lost connection in Masterton with any success?

All the settings are set correctly as you have suggested.  Will be going over again on Saturday, so will do a manual search for networks and see how I get on.

Went back to Masterton and the phone worked. I hadn't even done anything to it. Maybe a glitch in the system somewhere when i went over the previous times...i don't know....pass!
