iOS 17.7 and 18 are now out
No further updates on eSIM for wearables looks like 2026 it is!!

re iphone number change to 2 degrees...
Heads up that imessage will take a dive for a day or so when you make this move.
Has happened every single time I've migrated a family member over to 2 degrees and usually causes concerns it's not working, restarts, updates etc etc. Solution has been to disable messaging/facetime for a day and then re enable.
cokemaster: (+ and pay the $5 new eSIM tax).
excuse me. Is that a thing? I moved over to 2D 6 months ago and there wasnt a fee. That is absurd to be charging for an eSIM.

cokemaster: @Aaroona, I wish I was kidding.
I was charged:
* $5NZD for a physical to esim transition. This involved the use of a cardboard QR code.
* $5NZD to shift the eSIM from one device to another. This involved another cardboard QR code.
This was at the Lynnmall 2 Degrees shop in Auckland.
What was highly amusing at the time was folks coming in for new connections onto eSIMs.
They’d provision/activate the service on a physical SIM and then do a sim swap onto the cardboard eSIM. The physical sim would then be binned.
Honestly, when I think about it, I'm not surprised. When I tried to move to 2D in the first place, they ran out of eSIM's. As in physically had no cardboard and could not generate a QR code.
One NZ on the other hand sent me a QR code to my email, it was generated on screen, and I could move freely between devices without having to ever talk to an agent.
2D are the Ryan Air of cell providers in NZ. As long as you're willing to accept quite a number of compromises, you can make it work for making calls and sending texts, but the service (customer service iffy, comms terrible, physical visits required) isn't great and the services may be lacking (poorer coverage, lately poorer speed, no wearable esim's, somehow physically running out of QR Codes??, inability to move devices freely without contacting a store etc.), and they'll charge for things like CC fees and eSIM + the swap overs.

eong: Can’t believe it is still like this after two years. Spark also allows you to transfer your eSIM from one iPhone to another. Just tried it yesterday and it worked smoothly.
So, only 2degrees is left behind? That’s not the 2degrees know.
According to 2degrees website they support the same feature for switching esim between iPhones and you can also switch from a physical sim to an esim directly on an iPhone:
https://www.2degrees.nz/help/mobile-help/getting-started/register-your-esim
Go to Settings > Mobile > Tap ‘Convert to eSIM’ and follow the instructions. This process is quick and will activate your eSIM instantly.
