further plans for the western hills of lower hutt?
Theres a brand new site at Maungaraki shops which works well but data coverage for the rest of the hills (Normandle, Belmont, harbour view, Tirohanga) is 2G slow to non-existent.

2degrees: Yep! It's true, we've added Hastings, Napier, Rotorua, Taupo, Palmerston North, Levin, Dunedin and Invercargill to the Mobile Broadband Zones today. Smile

We're building and testing in other spots, so bear with us as we work through the testing phase in those spots.

Cheers,
^SB

Any plans for Laingholm, Auckland?

?

Has any carrier built there?

I dunno, but 2degrees map says they're covering Rakaia, which is less populated than this area, and a small little township.  Go figure!

Telecom coverage appears to be the best out here.  2degrees the worst.  Vodafone in the middle.  (apparently there is / or has been some issue with Vodafone cell tower "forgetting" people and showing signal and you have to turn phone off/on sometimes, but with 2degrees signal just disappears randomly, roams sometimes, 3g works sometimes, other times gsm etc etc)

But come on even Piha has better coverage.

From wikipedia:

Piha is a northern New Zealand coastal settlement with a population of about 600.

Laingholm is a small community situated in the Waitakere Ranges west of Auckland, in one of the fastest growing regions in New Zealand. It is part of Waitakere CityNew Zealand's first "eco-city".

The population was 2,490 in the 2006 Census

in between the two there is basically no coverage  (this editor sucks i can't make underlining stop)

There's more to consider than the permanent population - 2d will want to cover the huge numbers of visitors that visit Piha

True.  But there's no coverage at all between a lot of Piha, and Laingholm.  I'm assuming it is more difficult to get a network connection out there.

And some people visit laingholm too.

It's the Waitakere ' Rangers ' not easy to cover for a start would require many cells

Vodafone has a 3G only cell at Waima that covers part of the area

Any chance of building in Ohakune or National Park? I know its seasonal but several thousand make it down that way each weekend in the winter season! (plus everyone makes calls on the mountain, or these days check reports on smartphones)

Looks like planning for deployment in New Plymouth is underway... A site survey for tower/equipment co-lo is currently being conducted.
