yea its probably not likely that i can get the router replaced, might ask the landlord some time to see if he can though, although i would have to confirm that it is the router that is causing the problem. I thought it was due to connection priority? say... priority of speed to youtube over gaming and browsing web pages which causes the lag spikes?...
this is just speculation from my point.

i think the router is probably just broken.  there's probably more information on the net, but someone was saying it worked fine when wired.

another discovery that i found is that...
lag spikes only occur if youtube is actually playing something... if its puased then internet is fine...
weird interaction here... not sure why

I thought I would just let you know that i'm in a flat of four, on Slingshot Unlimited. I have a WAG160N (which for me is a modem and router) which when I try play Xbox Live on will often disconnect me from Live when my flatmates are using the net aswell. However, we also have a WAG200G which is the most reliable modem/router i've ever used and we've had no problems with multiple people on at once, inluding my xbox and laptop, another xbox and laptop, another laptop, and another laptop + iPad + iPhone.

What I'm suggesting here is the problem could be the WAG160N (which I never bought it now!).

my flatmate has set a wireless access point using his time capsule that is connected to the D-link ethernet switch, coz we all felt that the WAG160N was full of fail and capped download speeds at ~300kbps along with many disconnecting problems and what not.  With the time capsule connection i can get download speeds of > 1MBps...

But the gaming issue still occurs regardless of where im connected to.  Perhaps its the D-link that is the problem... however i have yet to receive a reply from the landlord
