If you have the technical ability try tagging some packets with a 802.1q tag of 4 and see what you get.

Can you please post up some speedtest results from http://speedtest.orcon.net.nz/ - that will help clarify if the problem is international contention or something between your place and ours, as it were.  Thanks.

your speedtest link shows: 15.2 / 9.2

Here's the Orcon fault number if you want to have a look: #11010677

I just got off the phone with Orcon they seem to acknowledge there is an issue and are investigating. Last I heard they updated some modem firmware but stated that did not help things and are now investigating further.

Thanks :)

@Mercutio. Thanks for your helpful reply to my question, above.

@Adappted. I am also on the Orcon 30/10 UFB plan.
For comparison:-

To Orcon and Telecom speedtest 27/8.5
Chicago 1.39/1.44
LA 2.4/2.5

Wow, looks like you got major issues as well. 1.39 to Chicago on fibre.  I was getting 8.89 to Chicago on ADSL right before the change over, I know this as I have a server hosted there.

My latest to Chicago, right now:

Is -anyone- getting acceptable speeds to the USA on Orcon fibre?  Just so we have a comparison?

Yip it's something that you're not going to be able to do unless you have the technical knowledge to do it.

I was just curious if the 2Mbps high priority queue CIR speeds were being affected.

Zeon: Don't jump to conclusions and make a huge drama - unless you are a kiwi where it is your job to complain.... UFB is superior to DSL in almost every way as a technology. Sounds more like an issue in the backhaul/handover/Orcon sphere.

Early adopter teething issues for sure. If internet is so important for you then why did you get your copper cut off until you knew the fibre was working properly. Or even get it cut off at all in case the fibre goes out at some point?

Can you post a couple USA tests for us?  Chicago and LA maybe Thanks

*update, things are currently down for me UFB & Phone so hopefully it means some tinkering is going on.  This is posted via my Vodafone 3G.  For the hell of it here's my vodafone wifi hotspot to Chicago:

You may want to try tethering via USB instead of Wifi if you can.  I've found it to give better performance.  Zeon's on non-ufb fibre so not really a fair comparison.

Cool.  Well, UFB & Phone are still down.  Not sure if I should chase up Orcon support yet, I have been assuming it's down because they are looking into it.  I tried rebooting the genius and fibre box to be sure but it's still down.

*update, ok phoned in and they reset things on their end.  My fibre and phone are back but speeds to the US are still under 1mbit.  My open ticket regarding the speed issues still has a status of under investigation that it had this morning.

The advantages of a Dual-WAN Gigabit Router if you've got one :D

Just installed on in a client's house in a high-end fitout. They aren't in a fibre area yet but when it comes they can add it on and keep their ADSL2+ as well and run 'em at the same time.

Also, if you have both the ADSL2+ and the Fibre line going into the same router in theory doesn't that mean you are going to be able to draw the bandwitdth from both? Now that would be a very nice gaming/downloading setup!!!!! Even more hilarious is that they are never going to use it the way any of us would! Sigh... old people with money!

It's basically what I which I had myself. Maybe in 2014 when UFB comes to me I will do it... It's a Draytek Vigor 120 going into a CIsco RV042G then Ubiquiti UniFi Pro AP.

Possibility a issue with Vocus (Presuming Orcon still use Vocus) however issues like this with congestion to specific regions take some time to fix..... Just for comparisons here is a connection 1:1 30mbit of BW via GGI
