Hi, so currently you modems connection is limiting your speed to just over 500kb/s, this is due to high attenuation (48.5dB) which would indicate either you are 3.5km of cable from the exchange/cabinet, or there is some issue with the line that makes its loss greater than it really is.

Even at 48dB you should still get 3-5x better than the current speeds indicating something is seriously wrong with the line condition. I recommend you get a data contractor in to do a full isolation test and fit a master filter, if it still does not improve then its time to talk to or consider blaming your ISP.

when i first moved in i got crappy speeds and i happened to get a tec there Called Cameron or as i refer to him as Saint Cameron He told me to remove the 5 m ext cord i had on my modem and the speeds went up by x4 times

First rule don't use an ext lead on the xDSL modem next rule when issues happen do an isolation test

+1 on this. There should be a bit more focus on putting the modem closer to the outlet and sending a longer ethernet lead back to the computer.

I just want to thank everyone who has contributed to this issue A call has ben logged with chourus and i should expect a response with 72 hours. I have also just ordered a master splitter that I will get a clever person or techie to fit maybe even throw the chourus tech $50 to install it!!

Your other post mentioned "improving the master socket"... We don't use BT master sockets anymore in NZ, you don't even need the BT 2-wire socket it was replaced with years ago. A better option is to install a master splitter (the electronics behind your BT improvement) connected to an RJ45 socket thats dedicated just for your ADSL modem. Mine is patched to another RJ45 thats linked to the bedroom so I can put the modem at either location. Good luck finding someone to install a master filter for you.

Time to find a new industry!

When you go over your monthly allowance, your ISP will reduce your speed to about 60kbps.. So 373kbps for going over your monthly allowance is pretty good.

Your physical sync rate will not change though. It is artificially shaped by software at network operations rather than the exchange or cabinet.

HAAAA It wasnt me! It was the line outside chourus has just fixed it all up

Unfortunately they wern't the type of Tecs that could be persuaded to slip a master splitter in

so i will have to look around for another one AHHH life returns to normal

Hi, based on the attenuation and sync speeds, you are getting pretty close to what I would expect from ideal, so probably not. I think you said you had two phone sockets, exactly how many are there, and whats plugged into each, and is there an alarm system (monitored or not).

Ok I have two phone sockets one i dont use
I use voip
no alarm sytem
I dont think I will get much better

Hi, if thats the case then most likely, the only other change you could do is establish how the two sockets are wired, and remove one and its wiring from the system, but probably leave as is if your not technically minded.
