oxnsox: Your current version may not have Knox.
I've read elsewhere that Knox is included as part of the 4.3 update to Samsung Galaxy devices. (Which includes Note, S3 and S4 devices as far as I can tell)
Is your Note on 4.2.2 or 4.3?

4.3 I updated it when I got it out of the box not knowing about KNOX.

Knox has a big security issue as revealed by the ben guvian university in isreal. If you can UN install it.

It could then be posted as a standard answer to this reoccurring question.

It's not about 'the most options', its about knowing what options each network require and what difference that makes.

Just FYI Knox shouldn't trip if you're just flashing legitimate firmware as-long as it's 4.3. I've defiantly confirmed this on my S4.

Knox is not an app you can uninstall. It is fully integrated into the firmware, right down to bootloader level, it cannot be removed.

Also the Note 3 had knox right from the start so no update would have enabled it, it was already there.

@gregmcc - installing firmware through Odin does void your warranty. If you send your device in for service running any firmware other than firmware that matches the original product code then the warranty is void. This is because Odin is an engineering tool not designed for end users, and Samsung will void the warranty of any device that has been modified or updated in any way other than Kies or OTA.

Whether or not this is ethical is another argument all together. Your comment about proving a fault was caused by other firmware etc would be one to make a CGA claim under, not warranty. Advising anyone that this process will not void their warranty is misleading.

This is correct, once you have a knox bootloader you can only flash knox firmware. As long as it is offical firmware signed by samsung (ie not something like one of Chainfire's auto root packages or a custom kernel etc) then the knox counter should remain untripped.

However as I mentioned in my other post this will still void your warranty. Anyone intending to make a warranty claim should ALWAYS flash back to the original stock rom (original as in the original product code/csc) or you are just asking for trouble.

The simple answer to that question it's the best handset matched to the provider you are on.

There is no "best" provider. Features such as fast dormancy are customised for the network requirements. Have this enabled on a network that doesn't support it and your battery will drain faster that it should. Have it disabled on a network that supports it and your battery will drain faster than it should.

With all the talk of warranty in needs to be said that Samsung will/may void warranty but over here we have the CGA so whilst not saying you are guaranteed a warranty (if it is) you certainly have a case if it is faulty regardless of Samsungs warranty policy.

Personally I have never had an issue with any smart phones and I flash within a couple of days of p[purchase and happy to take my chances. If it was me I would be more interested in getting 4G so would flash but its your phone.

eXDee: AFAIK Telecom 4G works fine on any 4G handset that is compatible with the network, and does not have 4G disabled in any way. My Australian sourced Nexus 5 is an example of this - the D821 is the correct model for AU and NZ 4G. It works perfect on Optus 4G as well as Telecom 4G.

joker97: you can use vodafone 4g i think. they are 4g friendly.

i think this is the 5th 'time i'm reading this in the last 2 weeks (in my own post) ... there sh0uld be a sticky thread about telecom 4g not working on non telecom headsets

- johnr i don't buy that trick about buying a 2d phone and expecting it to work on telecom.

of course we do! what do you expect? buy a mercedes in auckland and it can't be used in the south island? this is the 21st century! not 1990! esp as the specs say LTE!

I don't have any reason to believe a 2degrees handset with 4G disabled (and therefore not working on telecom) would work on vodafone's 4G, for the same obvious reason. 2degrees will enable 4G via OTA after the network is ready for consumers. This makes sense and Vodafone is not any more 4G friendly by technical definition than telecom is.

AFAIK Vodafone and Telecom did this with the majority if not all of their handsets, i speculate as part of testing the network without creating potential issues for customers, especially if the handset has not been tested on their live 4G network to ensure compatibility and correct operation.

If the device you purchased was advertised as 4G ready to you when you purchased, yet 4G is disabled, then i'd deem this unfit for the advertised purpose at this point in time. Regardless of whether the hardware is capable of it or not, to your average person it does not do as advertised and therefore you should be entitled to remedy via the store you purchased it from, by whatever means appropriate.
If it was not advertised as 4G ready, especially if it was sold for the 2Degrees network, then its functioning as intended and you're simply going to have to wait for 2Degrees to begin launching 4G later this year and the subsequent OTA.

Note its important that you can prove it was advertised as such by the store, I don't believe that your general research and knowledge of the device model in question (rather than the exact capabilities of its variants) are relevant here, but someone might suggest otherwise.

It might have some sort of 4G whitelist, where Telstra's firmware has only certain networks its to enable 4G on, including theirs and roaming partners. Even if telecom is a roaming partner, they might not have had 4G at the time of the rom creation. That's my stab in the dark anyway, there might be a better explanation.
Unless you're running the international rom, not telstras?
