Hmm seems as though Snap is really trying to push people onto the unlimited plan, with reduced data for other plans and no pooling/shaping on the unlimited plan.

The main reason I loved snap was the consistent speed and no slow downs during peak times.
As unlimited customers aren't even in a separate pool to capped customers their is a chance I could lose that now.

In that sense I may as well be on the unlimited plan as any slow downs are going to affect all customers, not just unlimited plans.

exactly my thinking, except snap seem to have made it pretty clear they arent looking to manage traffic, so ild hope that means they will simply give the bad eggs ruining the experience the slap!

If that was the case then that would be fine, but they have also said they have no fair use policy so i'm not sure on what grounds they would be able to remove someone.

RalphFromSnap: No changes are being made to existing customers or their plans unless they request it. ^MC

Thank you for clearing that up Ralph, I for one will NOT be requesting it :P

yep, cant say i have done much reading into it to double check..

but snap know theres a bunch of us around here that will try to make a wave or two if things arent looking right. - note the latency issue a few months back, which wasnt limited to just snap.

Next few months truenet results will be interesting for various ISPs.

Does anyone have a record of what the various plan tiers used to be?

Old ADSL with POTS was $90 for 150GB, $100 for 300GB, $120 for 550 GB and $145 for 1050GB

Heres a starting point:
ADSL

  • New Naked - $70/50gb $85/150gb $95/Unlimited
  • Old Naked - $70/50gb ?? ?? ??
  • New POTS/VOIP - $75/50gb $89/150gb $99/Unlimited
  • Old POTS/VOIP - $75/50gb $90/150gb $100/300gb $120/550gb $145/1050gb
  • Comments: Plans are same or better value

VDSL

  • New Naked $85/80gb $99/150gb $109/Unlimited
  • Old Naked $85/100gb $100/200gb $110/300gb
  • New POTS/VOIP $95/80gb $109/150gb $119/Unlimited
  • Old POTS/VOIP $95/100gb ?? ?? ??
  • Comments: Plans are worse value for 200gb and below, better value for above 200gb.

UFB

  • New 30/10 $75/80gb $89/150gb $99/Unlimited
  • Old 30/10 $75/100gb ?? ?? ??
  • New 50/20 $90/80gb $109/150gb $119/Unlimited
  • Old 50/20 $90/100gb ?? ?? ??
  • New 100/50 $110/80gb $129/150gb $139/Unlimited
  • Old 100/50 $110/150gb ?? ?? ??
  • Comments: Plans are worse value at the low end, particularly on the 100/50 plan. Better value for the higher plans

Anyone want to help fill in the blanks?

they won't be able to.  No fair use and no traffic management means they basically have no way of 'punishing' users who are causing issues for everyone else.

It's pretty weird that they say no traffic management at all.  Surely all ISPs have some kind of traffic management in place to stop things like DOS attacks and the like.

I'm undecided whether I should go on the unlimited plan or not. I hope performance isn't affected at all, capped or not.

as i said, havent checked into the terms to double check there have been no changes that could cover maybe an "as$hole clause".. but i suspect your right.

Imagine the performance drop that everyone is going to get now. Who's going to be first up with the complaint that their performance has dropped because the unlimited is now all go...

Who has had a performance drop already? I'm on unlimited and downloading...

:)

My pick is that the leeches aren't going to have the impact some people may think. Why? Because they're only interested in paying the cheapest possible price for their connection so will be with Slingshot or Bigpipe.

There are loads of customers out there who will use unlimited purely because it is more economical sense to do so. Most of my data is in uploading to my cloud backups and when I need to download from that backup it is nice to know that I can do it freely, at any time, without any further cost consequence. I can go days without transferring files but then again I can download 100Gb in a session.

I appreciate the freedom that unlimited offers. so thanks SNAP
