Im kinda excited to see how well this turns out.

Good to hear mark will still have his hand in fixed line, he is often more than happy to get his hands dirty to try to get issues sorted!

The response from most people I know has been "So Snap got brought by 2 degrees this morning, at lunchtime I switched to <insert other ISP>"

Personally I dropped 2 Degrees because I cannot stand Rhys Darby, but their bad coverage and support helped influence the decision too :-) Can't say I see this in any way shape or form being good for Snap customers.

I don't see an issue with Snap services as long as Mark has 'enough' control over the Fixed Line business.

timmmay: 2degrees has decent customer service, but Snap is great, hopefully they keep up the standards. I'm unlikely to change my cell to the company though, coverage is significantly worse than Spark especially around areas like Wellington where there are many coverage blackspots - plus they won't let you roam in areas they think they cover well.

Totally agree re Snap's good customer service and 2 degree's poor coverage - here in Palmerston North, I find there are just so many spots were signal strength makes 3G unusable. This means any plans 2 degrees offer combining mobile with broadband are very unlikely to tempt me - the product itself has to be good before there's any point thinking of other gains like price or billing. Moving more than one service to the same provider also can mean you're less likely/able to move services should things (service, cost...) go south - I like the flexibility of being able to take my business to where it's best suited at the time...

Will we finally get a better implementation of IPV6 and/or static IPV6 on Snap?!

I'd suggest as in the case of other acquisitions, that it generally doesn't accelerate things, it slows them down.

Little concerned about a company known for its high level of service being purchased by a company known for its low cost offerings but we'll have to wait and see.

Side note my contract with Snap is up this year so that's probably for the best.

Snap's own customer service ratings had taken a fair beating as they grew, it's very very hard to maintain service levels as you grow. I can't see this making things better, I've yet to see it occur, but I'm taking a wait and see approach.

2degrees have a history of customer service awards, so that's a bit harsh. Granted won't be everyone's experience (is it ever?), but you can't say 2degrees don't have a focus on good customer experience.

I'm not saying 2Degrees have bad customer service (I haven't dealt with them much so far at all and any dealings I have had with them have been fine)

I am more concerned that where 2Degrees seem to try and hit the lower/lowest price point there is significant risk of this negatively affecting a company which has typically avoided doing so in order to not have to implement cost-cutting measures which typically lead to a sharp downfall in customer service quality.

After recently resigning a position in another provider where I have seen budget cutting lead to the sharpest decline in customer service quality I have ever seen from any company in any industry I am concerned for who I value as probably the best provider to date and one of only 2 service providers in existence currently who I would even think of having my connection with.

For the record I do very much hope both 2D and Snap will maintain their current position and not be influenced negatively by eachother however from what I have seen I would say you could likely pick up even the 2 best providers of any type/service and put the 2 together and see a likely negative impact in the short term.

mmm I seriously considered SNAP for when I went to UFB but went with MR who I cannot fault so far

I"m not getting excited but lets see how market leading they will be....

My safe prediction will be that 2D/SNAP match VFNZ/Spark and if you have an on account mobile you get $10 or so off a combined package

BTW our pre paid mobiles are with 2D

Telcos are generally renowned for poor customer service so the best one is the one that you never need to contact. I am a customer of both 2degrees and Snap and haven't needed to seek support for at least a couple of years, and if it stays that way then I'll be happy.

It's a race to the bottom in many industries now. The consumer values low prices much more than good customer service or product/service quality.

Note: I'm certainly not stating that this is the case with 2Degrees specifically.
