2degrees has purchased ISP Snap and will launch fixed-mobile services later this year.

Snap CEO Mark Petri will join the 2degrees leadership team and lead the fixed services division.

Snap workforce will expand to 900 people with 120 joining from Snap.

I hope this doesn't affect the service that Snap provide.

I can't imagine it would, ive had good support from 2degrees and Snap (when i was a customer). Hopefully the merger brings even more competition to the market.

Did 2degrees pay the rumored 26 million?

Nothing changes for the next few months really. New plans were mentioned to be announced in three to four months.

hehe,  worst kept secret.

I wonder why they found $26m from, considering they were moaning about not being able to afford spectrum last year for, IIRC, $22m

Probably down the back of the fridge I expect.  When I lose something, it's often fallen down the back of the fridge.

(Callplus bought Orcon for around that much last year. I bet Callplus would rather have bought Snap if it had been up for sale then)

Btw, this has to be the worst kept secret in the industry. Haven't people been talking about if for the last year or so?

They're bound to consolidate under a single name later down the line, right? If so, what will it be?

2degrees Mobile (Two Degrees Mobile Limited) may drop the 'mobile' part, but that will make for domain name problems again, unless Two Degrees the winery considers otherwise; unlikely just like when 2degrees first launched.

(I'd like the domain to change - 2degreesmobile.co.nz is looooong.)

Wow, I am so shocked and surprised by this, had no idea whatsoever... hopefully this leads to sustained or even improved performance for both both parties, rather than the downward spiral some other mergers have seen, particularly in regards to customer service/support.
