stuzz: I've decided that I'm not changing.
Other ISPs will potentially be doing the same, awaiting the outcome of the court case. I've been pretty happy with their service and support so far and can't be bothered with the grief of going through the change.
elpenguino: Makes a mockery of the 'S' in ISP. ISPs generally just offer an internet connection, the 'services' are prone to being dropped without any warning.
10 years ago, I joined maxnet as they provided USENET servers. After 1-2 years, they pulled the plug, said that not enough people were using the 'free service' ( yes, that's a quote of what they said).
Free? What do we pay every month for?
Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

toejam316: After waiting since Wednesday for a call back within 1-2 days, I gave them another call today. Took a bit of time for an answer to come back, but after talking to one of the guys, who spoke to his manager (who then I imagine sought authority), they've given me a small account credit to cover the costs of DNS4Me for the rest of my 12 month contract. YMMV.

Sounds like you have had a better response from them than I have. Basically I have been told that their terms and conditions allow them to cancel. so suck it up.
When I signed up with them they had the following advertisement.
"Sign up before 12 Jan 2015 & you'll receive FREE Fibre TV and Voice for as long as you stay with MyRepublic"

I feel like I have been ripped off and misled by MyRepublic with their bold claim "...as long as you stay with MyRepublic" I think is is fair for any reasonable person to believe this service should be available for more than 3 months.
I also believe even making the claim "for as long as you stay with MyRepublic" is misleading under the fair trading act when they have a clause in their T&Cs giving them no obligation to actually fulfil this offer.

sbiddle:FletchNZ: My understanding is that the TV companies dont have a leg to stand on legally so why upset your customers by removing a feature.
They do have a leg to stand on, and there is a very real possibility that CallPlus could well lose their court case.
My personal view is that Global Mode style services are legal, however the issue is incredibly complex. If I were a betting person I certainly wouldn't be putting my money on any one side - this could go any way.
Scotty1986: I just complained to the Commerce Commission regarding MR charging $250.00 to break the 12 months contract. I signed up for this for FibreTV, used it up until the day it got canned and since then I have had to pay for another service. After some thought I decided that I don't ant to stay with a company who treats them customers this way. I was told I would have fibreTV for as long as I was with MR, then they give me a couples days notice before they can it, and still have the nerve to charge me a feee because I know longer want to be with a company such as this.
robjg63: The com com is probably investigating the free Geo unblockers that isps like my republic and call plus have been providing.
Ironically, they have only just released the same services over in Oz. Will be interesting what happens over there. Unfortunately it never went to court in NZ.
