What happened to "Speeds as fast as your line will allow"? My line allows over 11Mbs

Your sync rate is 12.5Mbps but by the time overheads for ATM and PPPoA are factored in you'll get around 2Mbps less than this which will deliver you the 10ish Mbps you say you get.

At the end of the day not every RSP is created equal and in what is now an incredibly low margin industry price can play a factor in performance. If you look at testing results such as Truenet you won't always get the true picture but you'll get a good idea of how various RSP's compare.

ie 20-40 muir ave, you dont have to give your exact address

Assuming the issue isn't your internet network changing providers may improve your peak time performance, but only slightly.

I think that you have a normal ADSL2 connection that slows down at night - but no more than is usual.

Others have already said the same thing, using more technical language.

Not really marketing talk, they are meaning that they are not capping your speed to a lower speed as was the case with many older plans that were 128k or 256k etc. They cannot specify a speed since everyones line has different impairments and quality of wiring, so it is only going to go as fast as that line can go, rather than a specific speed as is the case with fiber.

You need to define yourself what acceptable is - residential internet is a best effort connection and you have not paid for any form of guarantee of speed.. If you looked at the Truenet results you'll very clearly see variances between RSP's over the course of the day, and if you're unhappy with the performance you should move to one that doesn't have these variances, which will typically mean paying more money.
