The commerce commission dumped truenet for Samknows.   The commerice commission goal statement was this...

The Measuring Broadband New Zealand programme is designed to provide consumers with
independent information on broadband performance across different providers....

But to date, Samknows has not produced any reports on relative ISP performance.

So, we can only guess as to whether your experience is your setup or something to do with the ISP.

The only reports that Samknows have released , are ones telling us fibre is faster than DSL.

Samknows is supposed to be releasing a new set of reports in September.  Maybe they include performance by ISP? It is a long time coming....

@attewell

Good question but I disabled wifi on the iMac during my tests.
So I definitely tested over the cat 5e ethernet cable ===> Giagabit Switch ====> EdgeRouter 4 router == ONT

Hi All,

Reply from Neil below - "Hi Nick - from reading https://www.measuringbroadbandnewzealand.com/static/MBNZ_Autumn_Report_June_2019.pdf it states that an ISP comparison report is due around September time. We’ve released a number of such reports in Australia recently, so I’d imagine this will follow suit. Thanks Neil"

Interesting. I’ve been seeing variable results on 2D in Wellington. I need to run through a ton of tests to see exactly where the problem is. Just haven’t had the time.

I’m also keen to pull the SamKnows box from my network as that thing uses an insane amount of data for no useful reason as their tests seem all over the place!

To complicate things - I’m using an Orbi setup and last I checked, there are still speed issues with PPPoE. Will try a FB this weekend testing from Linux.
