only 2GB on Saturday night. another dissappointment.

To recap the previous days I got the following:
Tues 3.16GB
Wed 2.12GB
Thur 3.55B
Fri 2.7GB

So overall no good results for the week. Are other people stuck within the 2GB to 4GB limit I seem to be hitting?

Continuing the saga.

Sun, Mon Night totalled 4.6GB so roughly 2.3GB each night. very very sad.

And I now also seem to be losing peak time data at an exceedingly high rate. I am very very aware of the start and stop times of the free data periods so I am stuggling to see how my mainly text searches and site refreshes are causing suh a high rate of data to be downloaded. My email only check when I tell it to. I will now be monitoring this area as well.

masika: I agree with all of this, slingshot has got real crud. Im a student and pay $60p/m with tolls to slingshot. I like to download movies and havent really had the patients to for around 1month now.

ive seen speeds of 12kb/s on the inferno plan downloading straight from (http).
I am seriolsly considering cutting slingshot off, but the $150 fee is a burdon to my $180 allowance.

Get with it slingshot, and hurry the **** up...

You dont have to pay the disconnect fee. Part of your contract is that slingshot provides you with a FS internet connection, not a 256k. You can leave if they are not holding up their end of the contract without paying any fees.
You can request they disconnect broadband. You may want to make sure there isnt a waiting queue on your exchange, and then signing up with another isp would be free as part of their signup deals if you want to wait a few days without internet.

Tues Night 2.25GB.

Disappointing again. Oh and since logging two performance related calls via the online form I have heard nadda apart from the thanks email we will be in touch, I will be disconnected before I hear anything from them.

Well slight improvement. 4.5GB. That is the largest night I have had since moving to the new inferno plans. But still well short of historical averages of 8 to 12GB.

Yes, I can only get about 2.4GB as well :(
I wish they would put it back to how it was a few weeks back.

haha, no it's the same, Xnet give you 75GB per month but at least with xnet you get faster speeds and you have a longer off peak time (midnight-8AM)
Looks like slingshot has just slowed us down just enough to make it pointless to be with them :(
And they are now slowing us down the whole time :( I can handle getting slowish speeds on off peak times but no need to cap it all the time.(or at least only cap those people with the 1TB data cap, and leave us people with the tiny caps with fast speed!!!??)

Not the point. With a 1 Mbps connection we should be able to download 1.8GB in 6 hours witha 50% overhead. With no overhead that is 2.7GB.

Therefore with 4, 6, or 8 Mbps you would expect a 6 hour period to deliver 7.2GB, 10.8GB 14.4GB with a 50% overhead. I would be happy with an average of 5GB a night.

Don't get me wrong I am not wanting to leech huge amounts of data and I am all for traffic shaping on heavily used protocols, but I would like to download my ISO images, driver files, critical update, and software updates at a reasonable pace and not worry about it timing out, disconnecting, or using download managing tools to keep things moving.

Slingshot gave us the option of moving to these new plans so heavy users would download during off peak hours, but then once everyone has moved to those services to limit the service is a drastic step in the wrong direction. I might as well move back to a 512KB connection and be happy with 1.3GB a night for a lot less money.

You know if you have access to a NZ proxy or the like yo can just use that to refer all your downloads (and well everything) thou it and get awesome fast speeds all the time as it looks like NZ content is unaffected.
Just a thought...

Complete total for the long weekend a very disappointing 4GB. So roughly 1GB a night. So roughly that is one Technet ISO file as to download exchange server, sql server, small business server, or vista ISO's are all 4GB in size.

I see someone is asking for a refund from slingshot, so I might do that soon, or at least insist on no disconnection fee when I leave. It sounds like they might get it as well.

Another Geekzone user has requested and got a refund. Slingshot is working to addresss this issues;

More Math; 50000 user all doing 1GB per hour = 50TB and hour or 0.83TBs (or 6.64Tb bits per second). The whole Southen Cross cable has a total space of 1.2 Tbps.
