That's a good point thanks M. Then I just have to do a bit of work to get the VPN up and working again, and delegate DNS, so not a huge amount of work. I guess I'll call 2degrees some time when I have an hour free...

Maybe you could value your time and buy a Ruckus or Aruba or Unifi...

Yeah I could. I don't know much about them, so it's a trade-off between the annoyance of this cutting out occasionally, talking to 2degrees who will want me to do heaps of stuff that will probably not fix it, and spending the time to understand another WAP product and get it installed.

I have a huge roof space for example, and ethernet up there, I could easily put a WAP up there. But I might need a POE injector and not sure how much effort is otherwise required. So it might take a bit of time to understand, not sure cost of hardware, then time to get it set up.

How much would it cost for appropriate WAP / POE if required to put it up in the ceiling space, which does get hot? Do I need to do network changes or just plug it in?

The only step I haven't done is removing USB3.0 devices. I have a Raspberry Pi plugged in, I'm just using the Fritz as a power supply. I guess I'll put a proper power supply up there and see what happens.

I would've started here. Interested to see what difference this makes. The USB slots surround one of the WLAN antennas so when your Pi is drawing power, I wouldn't be surprised if this is causing some interference.

Make sure you turn USB 3.0 power down (USB 2.0 mode) as it will cause interference with 2.4 GHz.

Ok, I'll remove USB next week.

@freitasm that setting seems to already be at USB2.

I changed the R.Pi from using Fritzbox for power to using a dedicated power supply on Sunday. I've had two cutouts since then, so it's not that.

The next test will be when my Pixel 4a turns up in a week or three. If it does it then it's even more likely the Fritzbox is the problem. I'm getting cutouts with a couple of devices now but I'd like additional information before I call 2deg.

You mentioned that you were experiencing wi-fi drop outs with your Motorola Moto G8 phones. I have had similar issues with intermittent wi-fi disconnects with my Motorola Moto G8 Plus and recently returned it to the retailer for investigation. They were able to confirm the intermittent wi-fi disconnect fault and phone has just been repaired under warranty. Only picked it up yesterday so have yet to test it out fully. I do wonder whether your phones have the same issue rather than the Fritzbox being the source of your problem.

Good info thanks. I have noticed the same behaviour with my tablet, but I'll check the Fritzbox logs to see if it happens on others. I have a Pixel 4a that Amazon says should arrive in 8 days so that will be a good check.

If the Pixel is ok I'll return the G8 plus to PB for checking. We got one from the UK as well, if we have to return that one it'll be a PITA. My wife hasn't complained about the problem yet though.

Interestingly, I haven't noticed the Pixel 4a cutting out at all. I guess the problem is the Moto G8 plus. I've sold it now, but if it happens for the buyer it can still go back to PBTech under warranty.
