Linux: Telecoms costs are reducing sorry where did this come from? 2degrees are deploying a new Ericsson Core and RAN for a start and costs are going up to run the business same for SparkNZ and VodafoneNZ

I should have been clearer. Costs per Mb/Gb have fallen dramatically over the last 40 years.

I found this businessdesk article on the subject illuminating.

I'm on the $30 plan and I've capped my annual rollover data. I have very little need for data, so this is essentially another $5/mo with no real benefit for my use case.

My primary reason for being on the $30/mo plan was that it was pretty good value with the $10/mo broadband discount for being on a pay monthly plan. But at $35/mo it starts to look more enticing to ditch the broadband discount and switch to another carrier that has a lower cost (e.g. Skinny). I moved house a few months ago as well, and 2degrees has some fairly spotty coverage around the area.

I'll stay on the higher-priced plan for a few months to see how everything shapes up. Other carriers may also raise their prices, and I'm curious to see how the 2degrees 5G rollout pans out. The higher price floor for pay monthly plans is quite disappointing though.

I'm assuming this is more to do with the cost of administration of pay monthly plans. Prepay is easier because there's no debt collection, no credit checks, no 'Oi your bill is late'. It's hard to justify this for a $30 plan.

Note that the $30 prepay plan is still around with the same contents it's always had, and neither the prepay plans nor the other pay monthly plans are going up in price.

The simple reality is Kogan's mobile plans are far superior than most offerings from Spark, Vodafone and 2D for a vast number of users. Their 50% off deal which expired yesterday would have delivered significant savings for pretty much every mobile user in the country.

It seems the big three are obsessed by raising on account prices and offering very little in the way of extra value. You can't blame them for doing this because the market is a bit like petrol, people just seem happy to visit their local Z and pay 20cpl more than driving across the road to their local Pak n Save... Likewise with mobile if people don't seem interested in significantly cheaper prices you can't blame the telcos.

I'm happy with Warehouse mobile $4 per month for 200 minutes which includes 14 countries, $5 top ups and for me a gold card user I get a 100 extra free voice minutes every third top up.

But for the higher end user Kogan mobile is the best value I have ever seen.

Please provide evidence that costs are reducing? Staff will be wanting pay rises as the cost of living increases

Vodafone are deploying 5G also but isn't it amazing that Kogan mobile can offer bargain pricing but still make money as a MVNO. Amazing how warehouse mobile can offer me 200 voice minutes for $4 to call 14 countries and every third top  give me another 100 minutes extra for the month.

FYI

Kogan's 50% off is still a thing this morning as of 10:35AM.

Also as a Kogan Mobile customer and on their large plan. I'm pretty damn satisfied and I do actually use almost 15GB a month.

Was thinking of dumping my landline and going to the entry level Kogan plan. Makes it easy when all Kogans plans are unlimited talk and text.
