The other thing to try with problems like this is to swap the SIM to another phone - that takes the handset and any locally set block options out of the question

MadEngineer: The other thing to try with problems like this is to swap the SIM to another phone - that takes the handset and any locally set block options out of the question

Try one side first. If it works, it is your phone.

If it doesn't work, try the other side while keeping your side on the new handset. If it works, it's their phone.

If it doesn't work when both sides are using new phones, then something on the network.

Start investigation from your (sending) side.

Linux:

Enable Wi-Fi calling on the handset

Wi-Fi calling will also handle incoming & outgoing SMS

I could do this but I generally don't use wifi - my home network is fully wired

@steadysteve This makes absolutely zero sense sorry

So your handset supports Wi-Fi calling you live in poor / weak mobile coverage but don't connect the handset to Wi-Fi?

nztim:

Overseas carriers may not frequently update their routing tables for NZ ports

I'm starting to think this could be the correct answer to this problem ...

I have two friends also with NZ numbers ported from some other NZ provider - they have the same issue

ie sms to some aus numbers seems to send but not received - those same aus numbers can send sms which is received by the NZ phones

Anyway I raised a ticket with 2d about 4 days ago now - no-one there can tell me how long it may take for this ticket to be processed

If the current wait time for connecting with customer care is anything to go by, I could still be waiting for some time

I could change carrier again, but according to a wide selection of internet rants, none of the NZ telcos provide an overall service that they should be proud of ...

Will get another sim from some other carrier to be used only for SMS to the aus numbers which don't get mine (dual sim phone)

Just to end this topic ..

For a few months I used 2 sim cards, one from OneNZ to text that pesky number in aus and the other for everything else.

After may weeks I received an email from 2d saying they had solved the problem and that it was because my number was blocked on the aus phone.

This proved to be untrue.

Tiring of all this, I went back to OneNZ and can now happily text anyone I like.

Thanks to all Geekzoners for their support
