Ok so I think I have worked my way around all the problems. Connecting to the tracker through a local proxy that runs on a different port to my p2p connections. I think this just might work. Last night I didn't download but uploading torrents connected to the traker just fine.

I received the ADSL2+ modem from Orcon today. I am not on an Orcon+ plan, from what I've gathered its because my connection box is owned by Telecom, but right now I am getting fast speeds (downloading at around 1.3MB/s).

Yay!

I will repost if I encounter problems connecting to the tracker, but for others getting a problem like mine I suggest connecting to the tracker on a different port to your p2p connections, through a proxy.

Umm...how easy is that to do? Sorry, I'm still learning how torrent/p2p/trackers/proxies work.

I don't use utorrent or bittorrent very often but when I want to use it, I expect it should work - especially as I pay $2 per GB for traffic. Time for me to ditch Orcon.

Yeah - kind of not cool - I use torrents a lot to get Linux distributions - often 4gb or so. Used to work great - now I am lucky to get 100KB/s...

Thing I noticed is that only international peers seem to be shaped. During peak times it will connect to a peer in the USA and jump to a high download rate - maybe 120KB/second for that one peer. It will then drop back until it is under 10KB/second. A New Zealand peer will often give me 20-40KB/second and are the only ones that will stay above 10. Sucks when there are not many NZ peers though!

I dropped Telstra because I experienced massive slowdown - from 15mb/s to 0.3mb/s during peak hours. Thought Orcon was brilliant, but now, I'm pretty jaded.

Again - I am not against shaping, but it seems weird that I can use getright and download a VPC image from Microsoft USA at 1.2 megabytes per second over http (1.5 hours to download 4GB!) but cannot get a torrent much above 30-40KB/second at the same time (28 hours for that same download!).

just got a signed business case to buy PeerApps for the network.

This will allow us to cache and serve P2P and Web traffic traffic locally from the network.

The theory is that if its in the cache, it will be served at best speed from the cache to the customer.

If its not in the cache, then it will be traffic managed as usual.

Things we will cache:
P2P Bittottent (non-encrypted)
Rapidshare/Megaupload
http files (greater than 256k)
streaming videos (quicktimes, youtube etc).

Will let you guys know timeframes etc, but the plan is before Xmas holidays.

and no, no plans to put the caches in Ozone :P

Same Issue since the last Cap has rolled over.

Tested on multiple PC's

Reset the router.

DHT eventually times out.

Times out with DHT dissabled.

Can use all other services.

Follow the guides on youtube for utorrent. This will make it alot faster.

my torrents were always blocked until after mid night, just recently i can even get up to 250k during peak hours. anyone else share the same experience?

Yes it looks like torrents are working well I was at a friends place tonight who uses Orcon and wow, beats my Big time plan, which wouldn't be hard to do, time to change.
