Im little old Timaru, have had nothing but great speed from Slingshot, can't comment on their customer service, because I've never needed it!

Below is a speed test from 8.45 this morning - its actually a bit slow, normally sits around 18

Well thats awesome, I have a speedtest of around 18.73 mb/s this morning, on a video which I recorded to ensure evidence of the retarded speed on my connection. I ran a speed test while running a series of downloads, the speedtest is really good, the downloads sit on around 36 kB/s that image means NOTHING on slingshot.

slingshot is bs.

I agree totally, I was sold a Slingshot plan and have since moved back to Telecom (that was hard).
Almost every aspect of Sling shot was dodgy and to tell you the truth made Telecom look good-which is not that great!
They told me I could keep my xtra email address as part of the signup deal and then once I had signed up they said that this had nothing to do with them but was between me and Telecom.
Also the waiting time to their help desk of 1hr makes Telecoms 10-20 mins look reasonable.
Then there is the connection speed of around 4x slower tha Telecoms-yeah sure the speed tests all say its wonderful but realworld download speed are 30-60 kb/s vs 200kb/s for Telecom.
BUYER BEWARE

A speedtest to your ISP doesn't tell you much about the service you are getting does it, more about how good your ADSL connection is?

Someone correct me here if I'm wrong (of course you will!) but doesn't the meter start at the other side of the ISP, ie how much international bandwidth they are buying, how the backhaul is metered out and what alternative networks and arrangements they have.

Slingshot seemed to have a bad patch just recently but have upped the game again now, perhaps in response to complaints. I find things like YouTube are too slow though.

You get the impression the ISPs are playing this game of dialling up and down the costs in response to the complaint level.

Youtube is unusable unless cached. Often about 4-5 reloads of the youtube page will make the cache kick in and things come thru ok, you can tell by the status bar saying where it is transfering from if its the cache or not.

But there is no cache on all the other stored video websites like vimeo etc.

Since they have something making streaming work ok, I need to find some proxy that turns http requests in to RTP to send them back somehow.

I have also switched back to Telecom. Slingshot is a load of bollocks. I'll refuse to pay the first month and the early termination fee.

Well I rang up and waited for almost an hour before getting through. They told me that it was because I am using an adsl2+ modem (It was issued to me by Telecom) and needed to go back to an adsl1 modem.

I dug out my old adsl1 modem and set it up and tried it. There was no change in my speeds.

Now I know for a FACT that my slow speeds are not caused by my modem, because I recieve good speeds in the mornings when I guess traffic is lighter.

So now as well as poor broadband service, Slingshot provides poor customer service too.

I will definately be moving away from Slingshot.

Edit: Forgot to mention, high pings are also common in the evenings making gaming impossible.

This is typical of my connection. they can't explain whats up with my speed, suggest any problem is from my end, however on friday morning, before they changed my broadband away from telstra, the speed was reflected in my downloads, getting up to 2.2 MB/s downstream. as in a movie in 6 minutes.

slingshot are taking the piss.

ring customer service and just tell them your situation. I vented my situation today and they're going to waive the termination fee.

For the last few night from 6pm to 2am i have been having ping times of 350ms+

Gamings a joke with such high latency,

Called there Customer service and after my last few experinces i was expecting a nightmare HOWEVER

The dude i got was very helpful

he said my connection is "Sh*t" ran thru the usual tests, tracert speedtests, he seemed shocked tht ones connection could be so crud! sent it of to "tier 2" and now i wait if they cannot resolve this ill be making sure i escape with no fees, I had nothing but high hopes when i joined slingshot however the relationship we have shared is been nothing but a dirty dark ISP nightmare story

I'm getting about 15kb/s with most http downloads and torrents are going at about 20kb/s for me. This is no matter where or what I download at any time of the day. Cant even go back to next big thing since they removed it.. well played slingshot, save money and bandwidth and forget about the customers..

why don't you sign/re-sign back with telecom and get the double data allowance. the amount you can download in a day is much more you can download in a month with slingshot.
