What about microSIMs for Iphones? I already have a standard 2D SIM for my wife's phone. Am I going to have to buy another one or can the same process for the SIM for iPad work?

Hi, no need to buy a new one. Call our Care team on 0800 022022 or 200 from a 2degrees phone and we can send you a free blank MicroSIM.  When you have it call us back and we'll swap the number over.

There's currently a shortage of blank SIMs but your name will be put on the list to receive one as soon as they come in.

Cheers

Well my 2D sim arrinved last week but I havent done anything with it until now.

In all it took me five minutes to get everything up and running and start the port process. Ive been very impressed with the ease of it all.

Had to roll my eyes when I explained I was doing all this to my wifes phone. First thing she said was 'dont tell me I'll have a new number :)'

Well I also got my 2D SIM card, stuck it in a spare phone and went through the registration process. That worked okay. But then I tried to go on the monthly plan and that didn't go so well.

No - my credit is fine (!) - but it always rejected the confirmation code that was sent in e-mail. I spent a bit of time with customer service (very helpful to be sure) and eventually it worked. But not before I had to go through loss password, get the code etc. and logon again.

I also then purchased the $20 data pack. It's interesting how the data pack billing is not aligned to the regular billing. They say the bill is paid in arrears so that my next bill is October 4 and I have 171 minutes to use until then (might have to start talking on the phone again!). But the data I bought is valid until a month from today. You would think they would align everything.

Daringly I then stuck my 2D sim card into my Nexus One. Of course while the phone worked, data and MMS didn't work until I created a new APN and entered the 2D settings.

While so far so good, I am am going to resist porting my number across until I have had a few days of use with it. My slightly worrying this about 2D is this item on their web site about international SMS

If you are moving your number from Vodafone, you may not be able to reliably receive texts sent from these overseas networks: Vodafone UK, Vodafone Ireland, Vodafone Germany, T-Mobile USA and SFR (Vodafone France). We are having difficulty getting an agreement with those networks to allow some transferred numbers to receive some texts from customers of those networks.

I do know people in the UK and the US on those networks so not getting their texts could be a problem. I wonder if it applies for new 2D numbers also?

Finally with all those minutes in the plan, they apparently charge you to get your VM - 20c/time. That seems a bit of nickel and dime charge to me.

I would argue that this makes sense, because 2degrees' philosophy around data is that you buy what you need when you need it rather than having it tied to a cycle.
