I have been a VF customer for over 6 years now but I think 2Degrees now have a more compelling offering for me.

By way of background I am on a Choose 20 plan now with one BM and 100MB data. This provides for 20 anytime/any network minutes, 200 VF minutes, and 1000 VF texts and data.

This has worked quite well for me since my BM is my wife who calls me a fair bit (calls and hangs up!), my kids are all on VF (well my daughter has two phones so she texts from 022 and I text her back on 021!) and most of my business associates are on VF. So the $51/month for the plan plus extras works fine.

But just got my last bill and was rather annoyed to see a $25 charge for a 30 minute call to a business partner's 021 phone but it was a ported Telecom number! Maybe I should have checked first before calling but who does that?

Now 2D have a  an attactive on account plan.  $39 gives you 120 anytime/any network calls, sign up now and get an additional 100 minutes and the minutes carry over to the next month plus add $20 to get 1GB of data. The only slight wrinkle is, the data is only in the main centres where they have a data network, else if you stray out of that area and presumably have to roam on VF, then you have to buy 50MB blocks for $6.

So this plan is $59/month. I looked at my last few bills and my BM calls average 50-60 minutes/month. On 2D those calls would count against my total allocation but checking the past few bills my BM calls plus other calls have rarely exceeded 220 minutes/month so I would unlikely to exceed the free minutes. Plus of course with the carry over from the last month, that just adds more headroom. Finally with 1GB of data, if I choose I can always do VoIP calls I guess.

The porting process seems painless and if it doesn't work out I can always switch back.

Anybody see any flaws in this plan?

As long as you're not on a contract with Vodafone, it might just work. Just be careful if you port your number, your friends might end up like you did when you were charged $25.

No contract - just on a monthly plan which can be terminated at any time.

I worry about me - not my friends!

I think your experience highlights the problems with on-network pricing, so there's a distinct advantage in going with a provider that's cheap across the board rather than just on their own network. I'm in a similar position to you, and I just ordered by 2Degrees pay monthly SIM yesterday.

Agreed. Before number portability, at least you knew when you called what charges might be incurred. Now it's a crapshoot.

If you use more than 120minutes I don't think there is any carryover - as I understand it plan minutes are used before bonus minutes and bonus minutes only last 30 days - well that is what I read from T&C - 2degrees may wish to confirm or correct this?

Sounds right since the additional minutes are not part of the plan but monthly extras that get added each month.

Still at worse you hagve 220 minutes/month and if you don't call more than 120 minutes, then even more. Much better than the VF plan I am on now.

Whilst Im sitting pretty using the 3Gb of data on VF, this monthly deal is perfect for my wife who only uses calls and texts. So I ordered a SIM for her on Friday and Ill switch her just as soon as it arrives.

If I have it worked out correctly if she only uses 60 mins the first month she will end up with 120 (monthly) + 60 (rollover) + 100 (bonus) for month two. If she does 60 in that month she will end up with 120 + 120 + 100 for month three etc.

From then on I doubt she will send another text or use the landline ever again.

I thought about that also. My wife is in on a Easy 20 plan which provides for 20 anytime minutes and 60 nights and weekends but she usually goes over that since she really doesn't think what time it is when she calls. Of course all calls to her BFF (is that the term?) viz. me(!) go unanswered as I then call her back on the BM plan.

I just picked up an iPhone4 for her without a contract. Since she is unlikely to do data on the phone (consciously anyway) I might move her to the $39 2D plan so she can call to her heart's content and I know how much each month the bill is going to be. And carryover as you state is a bonus. You never know - I might now answer her calls :-)

Just to confirm, the 100 bonus minutes don't carry over and you have to do a little bit of work to get them attached to the account.

You have to text 'Bonus 100' to 233 before the end of Oct.

Hopefully that doesn't put too many people off!

Cheers

^^^^ Its not the bonus minutes which makes this a winner its the unused minutes rolling over. If you only use half the 120 mins for a month or two the bonus minutes become largely irrelevant IMO.

Why make people do thast? Why not just add it automatically? It's not hard to do - it's easy to forget though

Hi,

We're looking into adding them automatically, but for the moment it's a manual process.

yes, Vodafones refusal to offer off network txt bundles is really burning them at the moment.  Either a lot are ditching VF, or they are just vocal about doing it.

At the end of the day most people will have a lot of people who are with another company.

Well two customers on my family so that's about $ 1000 /year so small potatoes as far VF goes but it all adds up, specially when corporates get interested.

I'm also a long term vodafone customer, on contract since 1998 (get200 then youchoose), I'm also gonna switch to this awesome plan. The only thing i worry about is i have a friend on 2degrees and sometimes her txt's take 2-3 hrs to reach my 021 number. It's usually instant though, but it goes slow from time to time.
