I can't see it being as easy as you make out as it's not as simple as that. The parties would also need to setup financial arrangements for the flow of the parking fees back to where they have to go and there would be all the "backroom" setup that 2degrees would have to do for this to work and the equipment they'd need to put in to communicate with the parking machines (which probably involves licensing rights also). It isn't as simple as "text YES to 111 to donate $3 to the PM's retirement fund" - there is much, much more to it.

Having not heard of TXT-a-Park before I googled it and I see that it is a Vodafone service, so it may well be something that VF don't want to share also - a feather in their cap if you like.

I'm not saying it is trivial but it can't be that difficult either.  The company that built it would be crazy to make it difficult for the Telco to integrate.  All the "smarts" will be in their part of the solution.

It's just a messaging feed and an associated billing feed.

It is a service of Cash Handling Systems NZ. http://www.cash-handling-systems.co.nz/TxTAPark.html

Vodafone was the launch Telco but Telecom joined in soon after.

The success of TXT-a-Park can be attributed to:

  1. All NZ mobile users having access to the TXT-a-Park system

Hmm, perhaps not.

Well has someone tried calling cash handling systems and see what their take on it is???

Since I am sure they will have some quirks about how the system runs, and porting must also provide an interesting issue too...

But since the mobile is sending the sms to the consumer, in theory it should all just work, if they are signed up to the agreements.

Oh don't be silly, we don't want practical, sensible solutions, we just want to have a moan fest Smile

Seriously though, good suggestion, people should start doing it.

mruane: For me. a longer period to consume my 50mb would be very handy. Say 3 months, or frankly what does it matter when I use the 50mb as long as it was say within the year. Trying to manage the data consumption so that it fits within some arbitrary time period seems to be a waste of time and prevents me from buying a block "just in case".

Second that. Also, I know my 50mb bundle is about to expire soon, but the *100*1# service doesn't say how many days I have left to use it.

Are you talking pay monthly or prepay... As if its pay monthly dont worry... You get 50MB every month... But if your talking about the prepay $6 50 MB bundle then yes it doesnt say when its due to expire... But they do txt you the day before to let you know that its about to expire on prepay.

+1 (on having longer to use it), would also be useful to have longer to use my 1gb bundle too
