It's not fake... heh  I did it over the first 2 text races. I got over 15 phones with one SIM lol. Telecom didn't seem to be take alot of notice until the second text race.

Apparently two degrees get 9.5 cents for every text from another network. Which is a pretty big profit when you consider how many messages have been sent.

We won ten phones over three sim cards. On the first we got kicked off not-stop text after 14k texts (first race). The second after 80k, the last after only 50k (second race). I think telecom started getting scared after the first text race.

We have sold our acer touches for over two hundred bucks so we are getting a pretty fair profit!

NonprayingMantis: However,  I am going to say fake for a different reason.  Other than the textmerace there is no reason to send this many texts, and since none of the textmerace winners have had that many texts this must be fake.  I think the highest I saw was around 150,000. It will probably be more this time though since it is lasting much longer.

I believe it :) It would be stupid to waste 300k texts just to get /one/ TV/Xbox. A smart person would get multiple 2degrees SIMs and send 10,000 to each one thus providing 30 IDEOS phones, list them on Trademe at $200 each and net $6,000 profit - more than enough to buy a TV and Xbox or three.

Hah, this is great, I was overseas for a month and missed all this.

This is almost exactly the same as how Clear (Telestra-Clear now) broke the interconnect charges for fixed line network interconnection - who remembers the free internet companies of the late 90's? (i4free, zfree etc).

Telecom charged Clear for connecting calls to the Telecom network. Clear thought it should be bill and keep.

Clear set up a bunch of dial up internet companies that worked though its phone network. (I think this is how sling shot got its start in life).

The "free" internet was financed though the interconnect charges Telecom had to pay Clear for every minute every fixed line customer connected to the Clear network. With dial up calls being long calls, this was a lot of money.

When Telecom first insisted on the interconnect charging regime it envisaged customers calling onto the Clear network in one city and back onto the Telecom network in another city. Telecom though it couldn't loose on the deal and that the charges would reduce Clears competitiveness. They got nothing back in this case because the internet calls did not reconnect to the Telecom network (as in a regular toll call from city to city).

Telecom tried blocking the numbers, but keep getting in trouble for doing so because lots of charities used the service.

Go 2degrees! Use Telecom/Vodafones silly rules to break them at their own game.

I don't understand why the prizes are so crap when this is the logical thing to do. Its much better to win 10 IDEOS Phones as you say; than one xbox.

Is this happening to anyone?

"That awkward moment when 2Degrees sent out extra phones in the TextMeRace then a few weeks later are asking for them to be returned"

Haha classic, I predict a poor recovery rate.. doubt it would even be worth the cost of sending out the pre paid courier bags.
