freitasm: I thought many times of moving on, but thinking of those couple of times a year we visit Napier, and I think of having to roam on Vodafone, and paying more for data when there...

I do quite a lot of domestic travel (admittedly only leisure) and to be honest the higher data rates in the provinces haven't really been a problem. A lot of motels and public places these days offer free wifi, and when I'm enjoying a trip away I don't tend to use the Internet too much anyway.

I'm a very light user of calling and texting but went over to 2degrees from VF a year ago, mainly for 9c international texting and the 50mb data pack.

Now thinking of moving back to vodafone, as the Talk 0 plan (ring a selected vodafone mobile from landline) is languishing unused. As a light user, the cheaper calling rates on 2degrees doesn't actually add up that much difference..
Funnily enough, the main thing stopping me moving back to vodafone is the expensive $20 prepay sim pack!

So true,. . infact its actually $30 last time i checked with the vodafone website. This is the thing which kinda puts me off - manufacturing cost of sim- 20cents. eco paper $1. add marketing, logistics n other BS, max $5. and they charge 6 times more. wtf.

Is their any ethics in pricing left ? VF thinks telecom is a joke and it can pluck any no out of the air. Ultimate rip off, no doubt about that

I get 5000 Texts and 480mb of data for $28, and 3G eveywhere on XT.
If i joined 2degrees, for $30 i'd get 2000 texts and 200mb of data.

I don't care about voice calling, i simply use VOIP over XT since the latency is low enough. I don't need the texts, i sent less than 1000 but i always use the full 480mb of data.

Even when 2degrees coverage comes to hamilton i still won't join 2degrees as I don't want to pay a different price when i move out of the broadband zone.

Plus i don't like vodafone's 3G speeds, latency and coverage that much, and thats what i'd have to deal with outside of 2deg coverage.

VF and 2 Deg coverage compared to telecom Xt - tonight tried a 2 deg sim on horowhenua coast - same as last 5 or so years with VF - no or very patchy coverage where as telecom XT has strong signal, so no point going to 2 deg.

I paid $30 when i got my last one, and you need to add another $20 on that before you can get much use out of it.

I'm on talkzone zero plus and wont move as I have a local number diverting to my cell for free, and the price is very comparible to pay monthly $149.

Also I find it interesting that very few people saw the txtmerace for what it was.
That surely was the reason the vodafone txtnz plan took so long to come out.

What keeps me on XT is the 1G for $24 I get on my grandfathered smartphone extra. Plus my device is only 3G capable nationwide on XT.

Oh and telecom have topupandwin.co.nz

Oh and they gave me four free weekends for topping up $20 today...

Maybe when 2deg have nationwide 1G for $20 I'll be in.

Ps if you want discount sim cards look on trademe

Main reasons for me are:

- XT works fine for me, wherever I need it, in comparison:
 * 2degrees has had extremely patchy coverage where I live (just outside Auckland), and I can't even tell if it's a 2degrees tower or a Vodafone tower so I have no idea what data rates apply
- My old Nokia that has a 2d SIM in it, isn't really that great and data has been very slow.

Also, a trip up to Whangarei was an absolute nightmare using 2degrees (data), where Telecom on CDMA was great.

yep, of course it was 2degrees preventing vodafone from releasing a txtnz package for the last 5 years...

I am not saying that was the only reason, I have been told by a few people that the plan was loaded and ready to go about 6 months ago. It was more the fact that they were getting the other telco's to pay for there prizes, just like the i4free etc between clear and telecom
