After reading the article in the BOP Times and looking at the graphic. They have not even factored in all the light pole replacements that WILL be outside peoples homes. And 2degrees do have a few of those coming to Tauranga!

Someone needs to make a list of all of the various frequencies and typical output powers that a person would be encountering from living in a city.

what are the options? lots of smaller, lower powered towers - or fewer higher powered towers? *i* would rather have the many smaller towers - lower 'emissions' and better, more uniform, coverage

electricity generation is a hot potato too. oppose tidal power, oppose wind power, oppose dams and turbines, oppose geothermal power - end result? we fire up all the old coal generation facilities when the grid is stressed. which would we rather have running? coal is probably the least-favourable option.

The only thing that sends out any real charge is the microwave transmission links... and since they generally require line of sight, its not going to be in anyones path that they would get blasted anyway.

My noob-level understanding is that if you have cellphone coverage that ur are already being exposed to the emissions so if u dont want to have ur cake and eat it too then u have to move somewhere with no cellphone coverage

Power decreases with the square of the distance, or something like that, so at 20m you get a heck of a lot more of the emissions than at 40m.

But when that 'heck of a lot more' is double 0.00000000001 [insert unit of measure here] then does it really matter?

Considering most of these people walk in front of a running microwave and make calls on their cellular devices I think not.

You can find all that stuff on this exceptionally useful site EMF Explained. I particularly like the graphic.

And I can't help but point to the Health and mobile phones page on Vodafone which links to the testing the NRL does on various sites - typically the recorded levels are so low as to be less than 1 microwatt per square centimetre.
