alliao: Any chance orcon have access to telecom's new cabinet soon? I was on LLU but now on wholesale, and since then experiencing peak time traffic jam.. not ideal..

smooth access to ustream would satisfy me...

sub-loop unbundling? (or did I get that mixed up with something else?).

I think Telecom kicked for touch on this and there's no light at the end of the tunnel right now.

Could be wrong though ...

No idea, too many variables on that without having tracked its performance for a period of time, and there are a large number of sites to track:)

Yes, but this is just one example of a site that used to load quite happily with Orcon but now is as slow as a dog. Isn't this thread about sites that load slowly at peak (granted, I don't have the same stats as to what qualifies as peak as you do!).

I'm just wanting to know if you're seeing the same issues as I am.

AFAIK Orcon doesn't do ULL gear in telecom's cabinets. It's a bit underhanded how telecom stick in cabinets that degradge your signal when you're on ULL gear with other ISPs. You get stuck on the cabinet with telecom's gear and end up having to pay more (The wholesale ISP plans) and then get stuck with telecom wholesale backhaul/handover limits.

Indeed the thread is about that, I am not in the network team sorry so I dont have the information you may think I have. I run the DNS servers amongst other things so can happily answer those questions.

The Labour government gave Telecom a legally binding obligation in their separation undertakings to achieve >10mbit line rates for 80% of connections.

The cabinet programme is a result of government regulation.

Overall the cabinet program is awesome, many people are getting great line rates now due to cabinets... we went from 4Mbit to 15Mbit at home.

The mid span injection interference issue affecting LLU connections that pass through a cabinet was well known before LLU took place, Telecom gave several briefings on it. A few ISP's chose to ignore advise to not sign up customers to LLU and did so anyway.

LLU ISP's seemed to have and still have a "no worries bro - there won't be issues" approach which in practice is clearly not good.

The ComCom have set regulated Sub Loop Unbundling pricing, no LLU ISP has taken up Sub LLU because it's not cost effective to put ISAM's in cabinets when you only have a few customers in each cabinet area.

Telecom have certainly done some shonky things in their time, eg: trying to double dip on Sub Loop charging.. the but ComCom decisions on Sub Loop were updated to fix that and still no LLU ISP has put gear in cabinets (there is space free currently).

It's clearly an economy of scale issue.

Also from a long term view with UFB around the corner investing in Sub LLU is simply not very sensible imo. Even with LLU.. if I was an ISP, then personally I wouldn't be investing in it given cabientisation and UFB.
