Hi, since about 2 week ago my orcon broadband has become unusable during the hours of 8-11:30pm. Most websites (international) refuse to load or timeout. Even sites like hotmail needs several refreshes before it even starts to load and the loading bar on firefox never reaches 100% on international sites even after an hour. When I try to download a file, the speed fluctuates between 0kB-10kB. National sites like tvnzondemand usually remain unaffected and I can watch 1500K vids from it without lag. My speed is usually around 9.2mb dl and 0.8mb ul during the daytime. I'd really appreciate it if someone has a solution to this.

Thx

P.S. I'm on silver full speed up/down with 30 gig quota

Yes, I'm experiencing the same.

Where's sounddude when you need him?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Are you on telecom wholesale or Orcon's ULL/+ network?

Similar here... was going to start my own thread earlier, but waiting for speedtest.net page to load. Last night I had a download speed of 6.84 Mb/s or better for Auckland and Tauranga servers, but didn't check international downloads at that stage. ADSL downstream line speed is 8064 kbps,

Sites like TVNZ and www.nzherald.co.nz are loading fast.

Not sure about the thread starter, but I'm on LLU Orcon+ network from the Auckland Central exchange.

NZ sites are generally quite OK, and Orcon.net.nz is very fast indeed.

This tells us where the issues are - again - .... international bandwidth.

I'm not sure that it is simply a matter of bandwidth... this speedtest to Los Angeles had a download speed of 3.02 Mb/s - not super fast, but not far off half the speed I get from NZ servers. The ping of 1123ms isn't so good.

But when I went to download the png image (above) from speedtest.net it took minutes to download, which should only be seconds (or less) for a 53 KB file.

OK, so latency.

Nothing on the network status page at all.

How serious does it need to get a mention there?

I'm on orcon's LLU plan. During the school holidays most sites have problem loading even in daytime and end up with connection reset. Speedtest.net isn't loading but tvnzondemand buffers really well. Has any1 reported this to orcon?

I can't get through to them. Tried three times, twice for 30mins+, and the last time for 10 mins. Filled out their web-form. Expecting a reply in a week asking if I'm still having problems.

I've reported it via the Report a Fault web form:
http://www.orcon.net.nz/support/request/

Just a few minutes ago, so lets see what happens.

Saturday 23rd April, 19:32.

Dear alexx,

Thank you for submitting a fault via our website.

Could you please try powering down your modem, waiting a couple of minutes, and powering it up again. Also, try unplugging your fax machine. Also check that you are able to turn the light on, and that you are spelling websites correctly.

Just letting you know that our utmost attention has been paid to this issue and we will continue to monitor the situation.

Warmest regards

Orcon

Just for reference, here is a speedtest result using an NZ based server.

https://www.speedtest.net/result/1254573673.png

Test result is fine, but loading the image from speedtest.net isn't so good. So far I'm waiting over 3 minutes for the PNG image to download and I've only got a few pixels. :)

Orcon made a network status update for 17/04 "Higher than normal latency..." which is amusing since 17/04 didn't seem as bad as the previous night.

Whatever the case, it seems to be back to being as bad as on the 16th, as I'm having trouble loading https://www.speedtest.net/ again. Has anyone else noticed this?
