I gave up at 11pm, and in the 47hrs managed to chew through 155GB
Started to notice a slow down around 5pm Sunday, otherwise all good.

I would love to see some traffic stats ISP wide for the weekend

JohnButt: TrueNet would be pleased to provide the results from monitoring by our probes for the weekend to show any differences. Problem is while we have a few snap probes we don't have many in the South Island.

Go to www.TrueNet.co.Nz to volunteer so we can measure Snap better :)

Hi all,

Sorry about the delay, I had the flu this week :-( here is the promised data

The results look good for the AYCE weekend, only the fastest users close to the DSLAM appear to have seen any difference in speed.

I also tested the concept of overloading during peak periods. I took the average speed of all Snap probes by hour for July 1st to July 14th and found a typical daily average speed of 7Mb/s and a tiny standard deviation of 7%.

The variation on 2nd of July was noticeable, but the Standard deviation was still only 21% due to an 11am problem (average 1.7Mb/s).

On the 3rd standard deviation was a tiny increase to 10% with a bit of a dip at 4pm.

That a nice chart but really doesn't tell us anything. Sure the speeds stayed the same but that could be because nobody really used it or that have a bigger pipe than they need.

Without detail behind it telling us the speeds stayed the same doesnt tell us jack

That's the point, each user (probe) didn't see much decrease as measured by TrueNet, so wasn't impacted much by everyone else leeching during the un-metered weekend. It shows Snap's network, traffic mangement and domestic/international transit handled the jandel.

I assume the graph Jon posted is of the 300KB domestic download test the the TrueNet device does?

How the hell did people get through 100GB+, Maybe Snap is slow where we are as it would take a couple of weeks to download that much.

Hi All,

Sorry for the delay providing this info - I did say that I was going to reply with some info - so here we go.

We had a number of customers exceeding the 200GB mark for the weekend, which was quite impressive!
The total amount of data transferred is quite confidential, but I can say it was in the high double digits of TB

The network load increased dramatically - as we expected. we had a fault around 11am on Saturday morning which caused high latency for a number of customers, this was diagnosed to faulty fibre transceivers and was resolved quite quickly (by lunchtime) this was done without interrupting service, its hard to say but that fault may have happened anyway since it was hardware related.

Overall the network handled this very well, and apart from the Saturday issue for about an hour we would not have expected any impact on customers experiences compared to any other weekend, of course there are some lucky customers out there that are very close to the DSLAM's that can pull down a massive amount of data, and others might not be as lucky, I can't really give away the total amount of data that the largest user pulled down, but I can say it was hundreds of gigs!

Your making the assumption that the network went under load, if only 12 people actually went hard and traffic only spiked 3% higher than normal then of course it "handled the jandel"

My point was without more information it's impossible to tell how well it went

Every Snap user on GPForums and GZ knew about it so that would be more than 12 for a start, but your point is a fair one as it's possible tons of Snap customers didn't know about it.
