As Napster said, You are best to remove everything as much as possible and just run on jackpoint.

My setup was like that to start with and I was loosing 20mbit sync by having all the other jackpoints connected so go figure :P

Weird! You'd think since they are 'open circuit' that it would make no difference! May be the master jack has some closed circuitry on the line by default?

So, short of actually physically running new wires to the ADSL jack, is there any other way to isolate it?

think of it like water going through pipes if all pipes are connected water flows through all of them making the flow less where you want it.

having a direct pipe and flow you have maximum amount of water, not at a loss.

Its the 'stub' effect, wherby the signal comes into your modem, but also heads down the line to the other jackpoints in your house, then gets bounced back down the line and picked up by your modem again, 'confusing' your modem. (obviously a massive simplification)

Check out this thread, it covers all of these wiring/line issues, why splitters are awesome, as well as how-tos on installing splitters

So if I install a splitter I'd still have to run a new set of wires to the ADSL jack right?

you should have 2 pairs of wires.

normally you use a single pair so no you wont have to run a new cable.

Won't both pairs already be connected to all jacks in the house tho?

If you're going naked just find where the master jack or termination demarc is chop it off there then get some cat5e / 6 if you're really fussy and join onto the main feed.
Then stick a RJ11 / RJ45 on the other end and you're away laughing.

RalphFromSnap:

Additional Terms and Conditions apply
  • VDSL Upgrade fee
    - $25 including GST for @Home plans (Total $25.00)
    - $25 excluding GST for @Work plans (Total $28.75)
  • Contract term is 24 months; an early termination fee of $150 will apply if connection is discontinued at any point prior to 24 months.
  • Wiring may be required; additional charges will apply and will be advised on application.
  • Normal Snap Terms and Conditions apply.

Shouldn't  the ETF be based on the percentage of months remaining.  Say I go to 21 months I would be pissed at having to pay $150  as I as near the end of my contract..

Dont know of any other ISPs prorating it, and even at the $150 thats more than covered the router discount.

At the end of the day VDSL2 reguires a master filter. End of story. It doesn't matter whether you have a naked or clothed connection. Even a naked connection with no POTS won't overcome the reflections on the line caused by multiple jackpoints which will affect your sync speed.

The only exception to this is if you're wiring your modem into a single jackpoint at the demarc and eliminate all other wiring.

IMHO any ISP that's selling VDSL2 without making this very clear to customers and only allowing a full install is going to face massive support issues, it's not a path I would want to be going down.

ok just found out what the wiring charge is for , its not for a splitter, its to put a new phone line in running just vdsl and the other line for the phone. Chorus turned up this morning and told me he was here to install new line and broadband, news to me as i told him i thought it was a splitter he was installing to get vdsl. News to him because he told me you dont need a splitter for what he was going to do. So he left because he didnt have an order to do a splitter and i rang Snap to find out what happened. According to Snap the chorus guy was correct and this is what the $400 covers, a new phone line. so it looks like the first guy i spoke to didnt quite know what the fee covered and got everyone confused. so now i have to wait for chorus to get back to me.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Aren't Snap only doing Naked VDSL2? If so this is perfectly normal as they'll need to provision a new connection on a 2nd pair into your home complete with new jackpoint. Simply installing a master filter isn't going to do anything.

But wait... but didn't you say:

Am I missing something?  I'm confused! :/  Isn't the point of a splitter to avoid having to install a new physical line?
