This looks great - I was just about to sign up and get a second phone line via Telecom (we currently have Naked broadband, but need a regular line as well), could I just sign up for this or is that something that you guys aren't supporting just yet?

They were discussing this on the radionz tech program. One thing I liked the sound of, was that they said that the unused broadband quota rolls into the next month if you don't use it, so doesn;t expire. It would be good if other providers did this too.

Kinect/TrustPower have been doing that for years on selected plans. I think the trend these days is to offer caps large enough so that it becomes a non-issue.

If you need a line just for voice it may or may not be a smart move. If you just want voice calling a VoIP line would be way smarter and save you around $40 per month. If you want a regular POTS like and live in Christchurch or Wellington this is only going to cost you $41.60 with Telecom anyway so you're still be saving $

We've currently got VoIP but need POTS as well, which is the reason for the second phone line, and really, at $10 or so extra, I would much rather pay that and have a backup broadband connection, or something that I can connect our hotspot too so that visitors aren't using up my speed and bandwidth :)

Hi CamH,

We don't do second lines as they can be costly and complex to install.

Flip is just focusing on primary lines at the moment.

Good to hear this though - definitely taking note of the demand for it.

I understand Flip is only available on certain cabinets and exchanges, but what is weird is this. Apparently Flip is not available at my address but it is available next door on both sides and across the road and even the front flat which shares what i believe is the same line fom the same road side pillar. Could this be a mistake on Flips address ID system or is it genuinely not available?

It's the nature of exchange coverage unfortunately it's down to a house level.

Always good to double check though. Give us a call on 0800 60 SALES and we can try from our end.

Further to my last post: It looks like Flip's address finder is the issue, theres 4 or 5 different listings for my address. It's 204B and 204/B and 2 - 204 and then the list repeats again, each brings a different result to if Flip is available. Maybe Flip need to take a look at the address finder?

I'm sure many people here would like to know how it went..... I don't think anyone would use flip here as "geeks" tend to use more then what's on offer but you may know someone who has signed up?

I'm thinking of signing my grandfather I've set him up with dialup of what he uses once a month or less.

They don't offer "Wiring Maintenance Insurance" like the other Telcos do. That is annoying and a bit risky considering everytime i move i seem to need a new socket or wiring for normal broadband performance which TCL have so far always done for no extra charge other than the move fee / wiring maintenance fee.

ADSL2 with TCL consistently gives me above 10Mbps and generally 15 - 17MBPS. I find it unlikely a discount company could meet that?... Anyone joined and found the speed is the same as the others? I know when my neighbour was with Slingshot it was the most shocking speeds she had ever received (worse than ADSL1)

It does work out about $50.00 per month cheaper for me though so i hope to await some feedback from oithers.
