Spong: I'd really like to know if there are indeed any disadvantages to shifting from my Carryover plan to the same priced Freedom plan.

I'd like to know for sure whether I'll lose any accumulated data and minutes and whether data sharing with up to 5x other SIM cards will still work.

So far, no one seems to know for sure. How hard can it be?

You do not lose any accumulated data or minutes, and you can continue to share data.

Fantastic. Thanks for the confirmation. Have just switched over and apparently this information is going to be added to the 2Degreesmoble site.
I lost my accumulated minutes when I moved from my original plan to Carryover, so didn't want to get stung again.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

SaltyNZ: Right. Data-only plans (no voice or text) and data add-ons. So, not the same thing at all?

You are correct..   Pity that 2Ds prepay $20 / 1Gig per month wasn't carry over like post pay is.

Yeah, fortunately that's no longer the case for non-legacy to anything else...

Where is this info?

Ignore it. It's wrong.

Yes, but it took me a bit of mucking about on your website to confirm it. I had the same question yesterday, so searched for the answer - I suggest it could be more clearly laid out that these freedom plans also allow data sharing. In fact, it's amazing how well hidden the information on data sharing is on your website! Looking for it just now I can't even find it again...

Oh yes, I agree. I only knew it was wrong because I knew it was wrong. If you go to the bother of finding the detailed Ts and Cs several levels of links down from the front (which most people won't, and neither would I), it's in there, but the Shared Data page itself should say it - needs an update. Looks like we missed that. :-/

With regards to my comment:

jcddcjjcd: Before changing over to the $29.00 Freedom Carryover Plan realise that you will no longer be able to share data.

I got this information on the phone because I was curious. I see nothing on the site indicating otherwise. There appear to be Freedom Carryover Plans and a Share Everything Plan.

Maybe they told me wrong but until I see it differently on the site I will continue to assume it is correct.

Regards,
John.

This is how I read it, based on the website material:

All these plans are called 'carryover' plans , whether they are freedom or 24 month contract.

The page on shared data http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/paymonthly/why-paymonthly/shared-data?gclid=CK_Fwfyox70CFYgppAodeDwAjw states:

"If you have your phone on a Pay Monthly Carryover Plan, a Share Everything Plan or retired Pay Monthly Plan..."

Therefore the $29 freedom plan, being a carryover plan, allows data sharing.

If this isn't the case I suggest 2degrees' website is misleading. Either way, it is still ambiguous and should be amended. Even from a marketing point of view I think it's strange that the pages on carryover plans don't state that data sharing is a feature, given this isn't an option offered by any other telco.

Well I rang again this morning and the person at 2Degrees said that you could still share data, that is not what the person yesterday said.

This is good news though. Lets hope the position is made clearer on their site.

You do wonder though why the previous $29.00 plan just doesn't automatically become the new $29.00 Freedom plan.

Regards,
John.

FYI - Salty works for 2degrees and built a lot of their billing software. Listen to him. He would understand the processes better than their CEO.

No provider would do an automatic upgrade, people have contracts, it causes confusion. Not to mention the carrier wouldn't want to say good bye to 5% of revenue by automatically discounting everyone.

Companies aren't charities.

I notice that when you get to the Change Plan screen, the plan description for the $29 plan talks about carryover minutes and unlimited text to new Zealand. It appears Australia has been removed.

I would guess that this must just be an omission because the main page promoting these new plans clearly states that the bundled minutes apply to 'NZ & Aussie'.

Looks like 2degrees has had a wee price rise on 1 of their plans.
24 month term $89 share everything is now $99 and I think - correct me if I'm wrong - but didnt you get Landline on your mobile thrown in for the $69 and upwards plan.

Australia is still included. :-)
