pooky: To be fair snap have just been bought out by 2degrees and they've rushed some products to market, completely agree they could do a better job with the info.. but I can kinda also see why speed of getting stuff available is more important in such a cut throat market...

Anyway, my question was does anyone know whether these broadband packages include a phone line? As others are rightly pointing out it's not very clear from the fairly brief details exactly what is included in each package. Question would be, whether phone line is included, what are the calling rates, and whether local area code calls are free? thanks

Basic price is naked broadband. Voice line is a $15 add on that includes unlimited calling to landlines in NZ and Australia, free local calling (obviously), Call Waiting, Caller ID and Voicemail.

I don't know... I'm a little disappointed in the offering, I think? I kind of expected maybe a little more edgy pricing, just by the way people were talking when we first heard the news.

For me, I am on BigPipe for $79 a month, for unlimited 100/20.
Snap2D is at least $99 for the same service, or if I changed carriers, $89. Was hoping that maybe the standard pricing would be around the $89 mark- I would pay an extra $10 a month (so $89) to move back to Snap and have IPv6 etc. back, but I think $20 a month is probably a bit much just for the privilege.

I dunno- sounds like some others are going to get a good deal though, so that's something!

As a suggestion, I would like to see them offer the ability to BYO router/modem, and save on the $15 shipping charge. I would have no use for another one floating about- I have my own router I use for UFB.

I see an update, dated 29th July 2015, a Broadband offer summary has appeared.

However, being particularly picky, how would a new user who wasn't good at net stuff navigate to find out the complete plan?

To get to the detail from the home page; "Click"

Personal
Broadband
Ultra-fast fibre
down arrow to "Terms and conditions may apply"
Then "Broadband offer summary"

Then one gets the details.

Why is the plans detail hidden under a title "terms and conditions may apply"?

I note the page has all broadband types within it, but to get to it you pass the so called simple choice price, which isn't really the price for most, you may choose boost I guess, but wait there's more....

I guess the site is in flux development, I like things laid out in an open to the point fashion, but I sense a degree of intention.

Me:"I'm not a robot!"

ET: "Maybe; you have some freewill, but you chose your path by arrangement"

Me "That sounds like a program with no freewill?"

ET: "We will catch up when you end this cycle"

Me: "Sounds like a 'KPI'!"

ET: "Did you read the terms and conditions?"

I'm currently on Spark so changing will give me very little cost relief, i think I will save maybe $5/mth but gain a shiny new modem and VOIP rather than copper phone, nothing too major but more beneficial than not, the unlimited Aussie calls will probably be enough to encourage my parents to switch but not of much benefit to me.

Overall I will switch and lock in for 12 months an see how it plays out

Surely it's difficult to develop plans that benefit everyone and somehow still enable the company to make a profit? I'm not an apologist for 2 Degrees/Snap, and do think the announcement and information provided has been mishandled, but feel that some of the responses to the pricing have been a bit harsh, especially as they relate to existing Snap customers.

Sure, I know I won't gain from moving from an existing Snap plan to one of the new 2 Degrees plans (would be $15 worse off a month), but that's because Snap was good enough to offer a discounted deal on unlimited data for me and I've no interest in paying for unlimited national/Aus calls.

Whereas my parents have recently felt obliged to sign up for another year of being overcharged by Vodafone - by my calculation if they were able to sign up with 2 Degrees they'd be $20 a month better off:

Voda: 80GB plan $89 + unlimited national calls $20 + caller ID (yes, they still charge for this even on fibre!) $5 = $114
2 Degrees: 80GB plan $79 + phone line / unlimited national/Aus calls $15 = $94

Our Care team on 0800 022022 can check what type of connection you'll have at present. We'll give you the best connection available at your address, and when UFB comes to town we'll upgrade you for free. :)

We want customers to have the best experience possible on 2degrees Broadband. To do that we supply customers with a FREE Fritzbox if they sign up to us for 12 months, PLUS will give you Neon on us for 6 months.

With the Fritz Box (7360 ADSL, 7490 for VDSL & Fibre and used for our Gigabit fibre connections in Dunedin) we can offer a better level of support that we may not be able to give with an existing or BYO modem, which is especially important when providing IP voices services.

Supply, installation and connection is free on a 12 month term and with the Neon deal, a $10 discount for Pay Monthly customers and speed boosters up to 200/200, we think we've delivered a pretty sharp offer.

I am being put onto 200/200 unlimited for $134.00 per month, free 7490 fritzbox (not sure what I am going to with it), 12 month plan, and a static IP.
The $10 discount for being a 2D customer is awesome...

I am not being charged a connection fee. This is confirmed. The only extra fee I am getting charged is a $15 courier fee for the modem.

POB as you know with a ADSL2 connection with a slow uplink VOIP is going to be marginal. This $15 per month for the voice option is incorrect if you want a POTS line over copper as I was quoted $30 per month and no extra features on the line such as with the VOIP option.

In January I started a 36 month term with Snap to get the cheapest deal on the 7490, I'm now what 7 months into this?

I got the email and thought about switching and decided I'd call the sales team to get more info (because the website and the email was severely lacking in details).

If I switch over the following happens as I understand it;

- My snap contract gets ended with no break fees
- I can enter into an open term contract with "2 degrees"
- I will not be charged a $99 connection fee
- Chorus will need to do some work (and this point scares the @#$@ out of me)
- I can continue with my VOIP, however lose the free voicemail so would need to pay $8 per month for that.
- I get 6 months of Sky NEON for free (anyone else notice they still don't have HD capability?)

Overall, very little upside for a saving of $5 a month.

Call me cynical, but the way this has been presented and how I've had to dig for information doesn't fill me with confidence that I will get the same service that I've come to expect of Snap (infact when ringing them yesterday was the first time I've ever had to wait for the rep to answer)

I agree with this. My issue is that I can't use my current modem with the new plans (ADSL), so I need to enter a 12month contract to avoid paying $149. If the service that we get from 2degrees isn't as good as it was with Snap, then I'll need to pay $249 to get out of that contract to go to another provider. I may as well switch providers now and avoid the risk.

I will be moving to a new house in 4 weeks and pondering whether I should switch.!

Bigger organization is less caring :-)). NO pot line connection only VOIP on the website ?

POTS is an option, just tick the box to say you have an alarm, and you get presented with a POTS option if you want it.
