Sheesh

How much info do you require?

I've submitted MANY with ALL requested details, as have others.

Is this a case of deny there is a problem and it will go away?

Or the customer will go away to another network and the problem is solved?

Many I know already have.

Most never bothered to speak up - and I can see why.

If I wanted to deny the problem, I just wouldn't bother to post on here. :-)

There are on the order of 10 million messages a day going through the system, and the ones that have unusual errors associated with them are generally easily ruled out. The real problem ones are the ones that have 'normal' errors such as Absent Subscriber or useless catch-all errors. Either way, we have to down several levels deeper out into the core and RAN to try to find out what is *really* going on, and for every SMS there are a couple of dozen other transactions between different nodes belonging to different teams that all have to be checked.

If it was obvious or easy, it would have been fixed long before you posted about it on Geekzone.

Yes, but the last message I sent to 2degreesCare on the 21st of October, which was in response to a question from that user, has still not been read, so I do wonder about the desire to get to the bottom of something which appears to be affecting only (or mainly) 2 degrees customers. I've provided as much info as asked for on several instances of the problem, but there hasn't been a hint of a resolution. I realise it must be difficult but texting has become regarded as reliable (I know there is no guarantee) and used in that way. If there is now a high chance of the text not reaching its destination in a timely fashion, it will really impact the lives of many people. Luckily, I don't personally rely on it much but, in some ways, that makes it worse since a large proportion of my texts seem to get delayed or go missing.

Well, that simply isn't true.

For me it is. What would you deem "a high chance"? I estimate that a quarter of texts to me or from me are delayed or discarded. There is no science behind that, just anecdotal. Even if it was 10%, that would be high, to me (but I would say it's definitely more than 1 in 10). I assume others have different proportions but it still seems high.

Hi @sofistek

Just replied to your PM, sorry for any delay. It is being investigated as mentioned in the PM. Please can you get back us if you have more examples.

Dear all

Please be assured we take this issue very seriously with a focus group drilling down into our systems but as @SaltyNZ says we cannot find any 'general' issue to date.

If anyone has 2 or more examples so please let us know the details in the following format -

Regards

Just to update folks that this still doesn't seem to be fixed. 2D suggested that my phone software needs to be updated. I did so (despite not understanding how that could possibly result in delayed, rather than undelivered, messages) because their logs appeared to show that there was a phone problem with delivery. Anyway, I saw another delay today (I rarely send texts, so the percentage of delayed texts is still high) and have sent them the details.

Any update?

If as you say - "the stats aren't really showing any trouble so if there's a problem, it's a subtle one" - I note the "IF" in your comment.

The only ones we've had sufficient info to track down so far are to Optus Australia numbers that all appear to be in the same IMSI range and are likely to be false ones generated by their SMS firewall, which is actively blocking them for some reason. In other words, nothing to do with the issues you are experiencing, and probably correct.

In what way do you mean tracked down? 2DegreesCare's reply to me suggests they tracked down the sms I was referencing, and it definitely wasn't to Australia.

NONE of my or others I know txt's that have / were delayed were to ANY other country.

Almost all were to from someone WITHIN 100km! (In NZ)
