Hi everyone,

We would just like to update you all on the current situation. Over the last week, we have been experiencing on-and-off performance issues related to our backhaul provider. Last night we had an isolated incident with our network which was resolved as quickly as we could. On top of this, we are working on an on-going performance issue localised to the Hamilton region. Again we are working with our backhaul provider to have this resolved as soon as possible. We do apologise for the inconvenience caused in relation to these issues and we hope to have them resolved and investigated as soon as possible.

Thanks - The Team @ MyRepublic.

I appreciate the update.

This brings the total number of useful updates (other than "we don't have an update") in 2 weeks and 20+ phone calls to 1.

2/10  We're still looking for another ISP.

Ball's in your court.

I'm concerned with that wording: "backhaul provider". I would have expected a plural there.

What happened to having redundant uplinks with different providers?

Link appears to be more stable, even since the lead-up to last nights failure

Lets see if it stays this way....

Likewise, I'm looking at other ISP's as well.  But realistically, they all use the same national backhaul providers, they all use the same internet gateway and they all use the same international bandwidth providers.

And from my experience they all use contention ratios that squeeze as many users down their skinny pipes as possible.

If anybody has any recommendations for an ISP who provide reasonable performance (good would be better) have a helpdesk that doesn't take hours or days to contact and who are actually helpful, please...........let the rest of us know.

I'd like to think they exist but, I can't think of one.

If you want to be able to get through immediately to support staff try one of the owner operated RSPs like TVC or Satlan as they are very involved with their customers and any issues that may arise during installation or just in general or at least that has been my experience.

I've considered BigPipe, they are like the bastard son of Spark, the have the backing off a large well established communication network but are small enough that you don't wait 1/2 hour to speak to a rep before getting transferred over seas. Again just my experience, no guarantees you don't still run in to the same issues further into your contract.

At least now MyRepublic have actually acknowledged that they do in fact have a problem so fingers crossed they get it sorted out in a reasonable amount of time. Just curious though if back-haul issues translates to selling more bandwidth than they actually have. I'm sure fair trade would love to here about that.

The issue isn't the standard performance, it's not even the faults.  It's the total lack of any kind in interaction with me, the client.  Every time any of us have called we've just been fobbed off, told we'd get a call back (they never do) or outright lied to for two fscking weeks!

I called last night just after 8 when it went to crap again, and got some after hours service who told me I would get a call back today. No surprises that I've not heard from them at all today.

It's the customer service that's making me want to go somewhere else, not the actual product.

Just came across this (MyRepublic) thread this afternoon.

I have been experiencing the same problems, but with Flip, (and am in the Waikato).  Created a thread about it a while back, but most of the activity about this issue seems to have been here on the MyRepublic forum.

https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=147&topicid=231920&page_no=2

Was feeling a little isolated over there on the Flip forum.  Good to see this is getting some attention, and commitment, and hopefully a resolution soon.
