NickMack:

MSFT decide where their content is served up from in terms of what CDNs content is delivered through, good luck working around this issue - it's beyond the ISP's network.

Nick.

Hi Nick,

Forgive me but are you now saying that other networks can't be getting better routes to different nodes?  I'm confused as to why you suggest it is a routing issue, due to peering through the Auckland MegaPort, but then say the issue is beyond an ISP's control.  Do ISPs not decide who they peer through?  Can ISPs not configure their own routes for certain troublesome CDNs if that can get better performance for customers?  Or am I misunderstanding?  I'm genuinely keen to know.

Cheers.

Wow.. last try - Once traffic exits a providers network it's beyond their control, various providers peer to make routing of traffic more efficient (and can save money too).  CDN's seem to have their own rules in terms of how they manage traffic... the ISP doesn't control this. Peering or not Peering doesn't control how a CDN behaves...

Nick. (end of my comments on this)

Given that different NZ ISPs have different results to this provider, due to different peering and routing, suggests that it is possible for ISPs to control.  You can say "wow" all you like, but you still haven't acknowledged that or explained how I'm mistaken.  AND you contradicted yourself earlier in this thread when you said that peering sometimes helps and sometimes doesn't.  ISPs decide with whom they peer, thus have control over the situation to some degree.

I think the point is that ISPs will not generally change peering arrangements because a content provider unilaterally changed their CDNs rules. ISPs can select peering but I don't think all ISPs will peer everywhere all the time (vide Spark vs Cloudflare).

If you want to hit the Sydney servers then you can try making your requests to 117.18.232.200.

Yeah I wouldn't imagine it would be Sydney for Spark, perhaps further afield than Auckland but remaining in the Asia Pacific would have been a better description.
