And Orcon just closed my ticket again stating the problem has been resolved.

Still can't get to a bunch of addresses reliably - currently on hold to speak to tech support.

Back on Orcon / 2Degrees some serious packet loss

Just as another data point - on Quic no loss can be seen at all:

However, on 2degrees to the same destination:

Something has seriously gone bang...

Are there any 2D staff that frequent here? My request got a generic router config response.

Told me to use DHCP (Which appears to be broken for my connect)
Failed to read the actual content of my support ticket.

So they have increased the number of blocked URLs no doubt leading to an increase in filtered IPs in order to provide the clean feed, this is backed up by the data from the internet exchange traffic graphs I noted earlier, but did they make any upgrades to filtering capacity?

Perhaps another avenue is to contact the Minister...

You do really have to question the need for GitHub CDN traffic to be filtered when such content could be easily removed at the source if it was really objectionable... isn't Microsoft part of the coalition led by Jacinda Ardern to purge the internet of this stuff...

The Department of Internal Affairs [Department] is making a significant upgrade to their Digital Child Exploitation Filtering System, which blocks access to websites known to host child sexual abuse material, says Minister of Internal Affairs Brooke van Velden.

“The Department will incorporate the up-to-date lists of websites hosting child sexual abuse material provided by the Internet Watch Foundation, a UK-based not-for-profit organisation, into its existing filter,” says Ms van Velden.

This will increase the number of blocked URLs from around 700 to up to 30,000 on any given day. The IWF filter is updated daily using both human analysis and artificial intelligence to identify webpages confirmed to host this illegal material. The Department is currently implementing the filter and expects to have it fully incorporated this year.

@yitz Other ISP's also consuming this feed are unaffected. Lets also keep politics out of this.

Unless proven otherwise this remains a 2degrees issue.

So I wasn't sleeping well last night so I ran some tests about 4am and almost all the packet loss to pages.gihub.io had dropped to zero. Re-testing I'm currently getting over 70% packet loss.

Ditto imgur.com is currently hitting 80% packet loss.

Here is an example of

Same issues here on Slingshot, for what it's worth. Last few days have been pretty annoying.

I have not been following this much apart from my reddit browsing being impacted by imgur.com failing to load or loading so slowly I can almost make a cuppa. This is what I'm seeing:

Is this at an impasse? I have found other sites also impacted.

Surely somewhere there is some monitoring system with a red dot on it?

In my personal opinion this has been going on for longer than I would expect. I'm still seeing issues on some 2degrees connections I monitor. One of them moved to Quic and since moving they've had no issues at all - it didn't even require them to reconfigure their router as they just specified VLAN 10 on the sign up form they submitted early morning and were moved over in a few hours after that.

@CYaBro how is your Smokeping looking?

Are you even sure Quic use the filter... I know Vetta is listed on the DIA site... but these things do happen... ?? 😆

Also it would appear Microsoft Windows systems are affected to a lesser extent? Have only really had two or three full on time outs otherwise just long delays in connection establishment... which I guess may be considered passable when government systems are party to the three way handshake... is John Key still on the board of Palo Alto Networks?

@michaelmurfy no issues on my smokeping but I've just tested to imgur.com and there's issues there.

7 of us using the 2d connection here and no one has complained about anything.

Something I am seeing is international throughput to many destinations suffering. This could be related to the wider packet loss issue. This seems to be affecting a very large chunk of 2degrees connections and all of the connections I'm monitoring.

Will be good to get some official word from 2degrees on this as I know this person has submitted a fault almost 2 weeks back.

It's literally on their site

The case with Voyager was due to them using 2degrees as an upstream. Quic/Vetta run their own network (Quic is owned by Vetta). I don't feel this is the DIA filter given it is not affecting other providers to the same extent.

I question the filtering element as well. But in all honesty I havent gone digging significantly into this but today I have been having issues with a mac device. Brew outright refused to work for a few hours.

It looks like GitHub CDN IP addresses has been removed and no longer route through the DIA filter sometime this afternoon.
