Here are two facts (tm) that I think allow some important deductions

1) According to tech support at Orcon.  They do not fill their international bandwidth quota, even at peak times

2) Poor performance is related to peak times.  Internet at peak times is not much better than modem speeds.

Therefore:

1) The limit is not a bandwidth limit with the international pipe

2) There is a congestion within NZ, that is related to international traffic

Of course any claim that they are shaping traffic to target streaming video would be strenuously denied.

Another conclusion we can draw:

Do not upgrade to ADSL2+ if you have not already done so, you will see no improvement in international speeds.   Local will be great, so if thats important to you (Work VPN etc) then it may be with it

Wrong.

Since I moved to ADSL2+ most of my international sites go a bit faster.

Especially when it comes to downloading files. Some being I can hit 1mb/s-1.8mb/s

The only site that I see that fails noticeably is YouTube.
