Would be interested to hear about possible handset launches too now that VF have announced the Samsung Galaxy S on top of the Nexus 1

Not being rude... But why do people care about handsets from the provider? It's not like they are locked anymore...

No but they may discount them if you go with a plan thus making them cheaper than importing your own and then hopping on a plan

With one-month terms i doubt this is likely. However they could create an incentive like: buy your phone on HP and depending on the plan you choose "We'll pay $x towards the HP"

That's what I thought... they usually have a 2-3 week lead time for any promos. Yay I look forward to getting my 100 free minutes. I'm not fussed if it's only 2d minutes because a lot of my friends are on 2degrees now.

i don't know anyone who likes IE6, most are just stuck on it because their work IT department can't fix up some silly custom internal web page that needs it so the whole company is stuck on a very old version.

IE9 beta should be out soon, i think that shows how old IE6 is.

Nonetheless you still need to ensure that your site is compatible. I know of at least 3 people (non geeks) who still use the default browser ie6.

Ie6 does not like transparent PNG's which kinda shows it's age...

I don't like or dislike IE6. I use it at work because that is what we have to use. It's not a case of "can't (i.e. won't) fix up some silly custom internal web page", we have literally hundreds of internal and external apps that are business critical. To test a new browser against all those apps is almost an impossible task.

I'm sure we'll eventually get upgraded from IE 6 but I suspect it won't happen except as part of an upgrade from XP Pro to Windows 7 or 8 or something.

Tasks like upgrading our 200+ servers to the latest version of Solaris, upgrading exchange and migrating windows servers to the new virtualised server farm are far more important than upgrading a web browser that does work for our business applications.

Unfortunately it's the harsh reality of corporate life, you can't do everything and some of these things are so big it's hard to justify for the limited business benefit.

That's a double edged sword though. The application we are currently building won't even work properly in ie7 so its ie8 and up... So those on older browsers won't be able to use it.

There was a post on Facebook announcing the release of the sims on september 1st, its since been slyly removed and the DSE site has been removed. Progress as usual!

They only started to advertise on TV over the weekend, you can expect another 2 weeks till something happens.

Totally. It just means the tens of thousands of people in NZ who work at places still using IE6 won't be able to use your app. Obviously you've decided that this cost is outweighed by the benefits you get by using features that only work in ie8 and up. Just one of life's little trade offs :)
