Just got around to looking at my new plan suggestion from Orcon.
My comparison is $93.99 on the old plan or $92.99 on the new plans. Not exactly groundbreaking, but I'll take the $1. I could make it $4 if I remove wiring maintenance. Just wondering if it was included on the old plan? Do I really need it? I doubt it...
I don't think you're able to remove that, kinda like electricity's line charges.
And even if it's not included in the old plan, I'm pretty sure it was still there just in some other form. You do need it, it's like paying taxes for your petrol, which goes towards road maintenance. Sure you won't be driving on every m of tarmac that was paid for you, but it's likely that you will be driving on tarmac that was paid for by others..
I don't think that's right. The wiring maintenance charge is now not included and costs an extra $3 if selected. My understanding is that this covers anything that needs to be done on the wiring in my house and if I don't have it I'd have to pay for this myself. It's not to pay for the maintenance of the lines "in the wild".
I'm just trying to compare apples with apples. If it was included before then maybe I'll include it now, but if it wasn't before (for the last 2.5 years) why would I start paying for it now?
I think the $3 is insurance of some kind so when you have noise in your line, and it's the portion that's outside of your property, then a technician will come and fix it for free.
But if you didn't pay the $3, then you will need to pay the technician from your own pocket.
I think the wiring inside our property is covered only by us.
If there's anything needed to be "done" to the wiring inside our property, it would incur a cost usually go by the name of "installation fee".
My understanding of the wire maintenance cost is that it is a form of insurance for inside the house and from the house to the pole.
In all instances, if there is a problem from the pole to the exchange then that is covered by your line provider. If there is a problem inside your house or from your house to the pole, then you have to pay for a tech to come out unless you have wire maintenance.
In all the places I have lived in over the past 12 years, I have never had problems with needing wiring maintenance work however have been paying the additional amount. Since signing up for my current ISP in September, I have decided not to bother this time around.
